Oakes  (NDHP)  The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports one injury in a two vehicle crash, Tuesday, at 9:30-a.m., five miles south and two and half miles east of Oakes.

The report says a 1991 Freightliner, operated by 37 year old Daryell Simpson of Oakes was pulling a trailer loaded with soybeans, traveling westbound behind a combine, that was westbound on Dickey County Road 5, two and a half mils east of State Highway 1.  The combine operated by 59 year old John Quandt was traveling partially off the roadway to provide space, for an uninvolved eastbound vehicle.

The semi rear ended the combine just after the uninvolved vehicle passed traveling the opposite direction. The semi impacted the header of
the combine which was elevated due to being partially off the roadway. Simpson was transported to Oakes Hospital by ambulance and later flown to Fargo for further treatment.

Assisting at the scene were:  Dickey County SO, Oakes PD, Oakes Ambulance, Oakes Fire/Rescue.

The crash remains under investigation of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Jamestown  (CSi)  The Jamestown Kiwanis Club is excited to be holding their eighth food packing event for Kids Against Hunger and look forward to the opportunity to feed starving families across the region. Since the Kiwanis Club started the project they have packed over 1.1 million meals for those in need.

Once again, they are partnering with the Great Plains Food Bank to distribute the meals to those in need

across North Dakota and parts of Western Minnesota.  In 2017 Great Plains Food Bank used up their donation of 100,000 meals within six months.

On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown Kiwanis Club member Michelle Watne said, the next packing event is Saturday, November 3, from 9-a.m., to 12-noon, at Stutsman Harley Davidson in Jamestown, with the goal to pack another 80,000 meals. Another 100 volunteers are still needed. Each meal costs only 25¢, so gifts small or large make a big difference.

The meals of soy, rice, dehydrate vegetables, containing 21 essential vitamins are distributed throughout North Dakota and Minnesota through the Great Plains Food Bank.

Families need only to add boiling water to make the meal.

Donations can be made at First Community Credit Union, on the Jamestown Kiwanis Facebook page,  www.Facebook.com/JamestownKiwanis or email JamestownKiwnais@gmail.com.  the Go Fund Me Page, or directly to any Kiwanis member.

The Kiwanis greatly appreciates donation, and so will the families that you’re helping to feed.

Those unable to donate funds for the food, may consider donating their time. Approximately 300 volunteers will be needed to help package the meals.

The Kiwanis Club thanks Stutsman Harley Davidson for sharing their space with for the packaging event, yet again. AND to those that have already generously donated or volunteered to feed hungry families.

In world and national news…

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says “acts or threats of political violence have no place in the United States.” He’s addressing the suspicious packages sent to former President Barack Obama, the Clintons, CNN and others.

Trump says he received a briefing from federal officials earlier Wednesday on what he called the “despicable acts.” He says that “a major federal investigation” is now underway.

And he’s calling on the nation to come together, saying: in these times “we have to unify.”

Trump did not mention any of the recipients of the packages in his remarks.

But he says, “We’re extremely angry, upset, unhappy about what we witnessed this morning and we will get to the bottom of it.”

Trump’s comments came at the top of remarks discussing his administration’s efforts to combat the opioid crisis.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — After selling a $1.5 billion winning lottery ticket, South Carolina convenience store owner CJ Patel says he plans to share part of the business’ $50,000 bonus with his employees.

Patel says he has no idea who bought the winning ticket for Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing.

He says he saw a steady stream of customers as the prize grew in size over the past few days.

Patel has owned the KC Mart in Simpsonville for more than three years. Until now, the biggest winner had been a $250,000 ticket about a year ago.

South Carolina Education Lottery Chief Operating Officer Tony Cooper says the lottery knows when and where the ticket was bought, but won’t be sure who bought it until the winner contacts them.

Cooper says the winner will owe the state $80 million in taxes if the full prize is paid out in annual installments. That represents about 1 percent of the South Carolina’s annual budget.

Lottery officials have turned to Twitter to reach out, saying “Our message to the $1.5 BILLION #Mega Millions jackpot winner: Sign the back of the ticket, place the ticket in a safe location, speak with a trusted advisor and CALL THE LOTTERY at 1-866-736-9819. Take a deep breath and enjoy the moment!”

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Turkish media have published a security camera image allegedly showing a vehicle belonging to the Saudi Consulate “scouting” a forest in the outskirts of Istanbul before the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The image obtained by state television TRT and other media on Wednesday shows a black car with a diplomatic license plate at an entrance to Belgrade Forest.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that Consulate officials had made “reconnaissance” trips to the forest as well as the city of Yalova a day before Khashoggi was killed, while Turkish officials have told the AP that investigators were looking into the possibility that the journalist’s remains may have been disposed at those two locations.

The photo was the latest in a string of images leaked by security officials to media organizations, in an apparent effort to exert pressure on Saudi officials.

HUIXTLA, Mexico (AP) — Mexican federal police have been stopping some minibuses and removing people from the caravan of Central American migrants, even though they had paid fares.

Associated Press journalists saw about a half dozen of the small buses pulled over at a spot near the town of Escuintla in Chiapas where police blocked the road with their cars on Wednesday. A column of other migrants on foot trekked past.

Such buses are common intercity transport in the region.

Driver Johnny Morales Castellanos said officers told him to remove the migrants because “the insurance doesn’t cover them because they’re foreigners.”

The migrants weren’t detained, but had to continue the day’s planned 45-miles (75-kilometer) trek on foot in 90 degree heat — at least unless they can find another ride.

It’s not immediately clear if the move is part of a broader effort to restrict the caravan’s progress.
