Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Kiwanis Club is excited to be holding their eighth food packing event for Kids Against Hunger and look forward to the opportunity to feed starving families across the region. Since the Kiwanis Club started the project they have packed over 1.1 million meals for those in need.
Once again, they are partnering with the Great Plains Food Bank to distribute the meals to those in need across North Dakota and parts of Western Minnesota. In 2017 Great Plains Food Bank used up their donation of 100,000 meals within six months.
On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown Kiwanis Club member Michelle Watne said, the next packing event is Saturday, November 3, from 9-a.m., to 12-noon, at Stutsman Harley Davidson in Jamestown, with the goal to pack another 80,000 meals. Another 100 volunteers are still needed. Each meal costs only 25¢, so gifts small or large make a big difference.
The meals of soy, rice, dehydrate vegetables, containing 21 essential vitamins are distributed throughout North Dakota and Minnesota through the Great Plains Food Bank.
Families need only to add boiling water to make the meal.
Donations can be made at First Community Credit Union, on the Jamestown Kiwanis Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/JamestownKiwanis or email JamestownKiwnais@gmail.com. the Go Fund Me Page, or directly to any Kiwanis member.
The Kiwanis greatly appreciates donation, and so will the families that you’re helping to feed.
Those unable to donate funds for the food, may consider donating their time. Approximately 300 volunteers will be needed to help package the meals.
The Kiwanis Club thanks Stutsman Harley Davidson for sharing their space with for the packaging event, yet again. AND to those that have already generously donated or volunteered to feed hungry families.

Update…
TWINS…
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Minnesota Twins hired Rays assistant coach Rocco Baldelli as their new manager Thursday, seeking a young voice to help revive a struggling team.
The 37-year-old Baldelli replaces Paul Molitor, who was fired after four seasons with a 305-343 record . Baldelli will be the youngest manager in the major leagues, the first skipper ever born in the 1980s.
Baldelli spent the last four years on the staff of Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash. For four seasons prior to that, he was a special assistant in the front office of the team that drafted him sixth overall in 2000 out of high school in Rhode Island. Baldelli debuted with the Rays at age 21 in 2003, finishing third in the American League Rookie of the Year award voting after batting .289 with 51 extra-base hits and 27 stolen bases.
Injuries hounded him for most of his career, however, and a rare disorder that caused muscle fatigue ultimately forced him to retire after the 2010 season. The only year as a professional he spent apart from the Rays was 2009, when he played in 62 games for the Boston Red Sox.
After three years as first base coach, Baldelli’s title in 2018 was major league field coordinator. He assisted Cash and bench coach Charlie Montoyo during the game, worked with the outfielders and focused on the continued development of the team’s young players.
Those were the magic words in Baldelli’s bio for Twins chief baseball officer Derek Falvey and general manager Thad Levine. They were effusive with their praise of Molitor for his acumen, character and flexibility, but the closest Falvey and Levine came to articulating a specific reason for Molitor’s dismissal when they announced it was a desire for deeper connections with millennial players in hopes of more productivity on the field.
Whether or not Molitor was responsible, the 2018 season was a mess for center fielder Byron Buxton and third baseman Miguel Sano, the two players long anticipated as franchise cornerstones. The 24-year-old Buxton was again affected by injuries but struggled anew at the plate, so much that he spent the last four months in the minor leagues. The 25-year-old Sano also had a career-worst season.
Jonas Valanciunas (YOH’-nuhs val-ehn-CHOO’-nuhs) scored 16 points and Serge Ibaka (ih-BAH’-kah) had 15 for the Raptors, who also opened 5-0 three years ago.
Checking out Wednesday’s other NBA action:— Stephen Curry hit 11 3-pointers and lit up the Wizards for 51 points in just three quarters of the Warriors’ 144-122 rout. Kevin Durant added 30 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and Draymond Green had 11 of his 12 assists in the first half.
— LeBron James picked up his first win since joining the Lakers as he came three rebounds shy of a triple-double in a 131-113 pounding of the Suns. James contributed 19 points and 10 assists before sitting out the final period.
— Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH’-nihs an-teh-toh-KOOM’-poh) had a triple-double and the Bucks improved to 4-0 for the first time in 17 years by hammering the 76ers, 123-108. Antetokounmpo delivered 32 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists, while Khris Middleton finished with 25 points and Brook Lopez added 21.
— The Rockets are off to a 1-3 start after Donovan Mitchell scored 38 points to lead the Jazz to a 100-89 victory at Houston. James Harden scored 29 points before leaving the game midway through the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury.

Indiana led by as many as 29 and had seven players score in double figures, with Tyreke Evans providing 19 points and Domantas Sabonis (doh-MAHN’-tahs sah-BOH’-nihs) adding 16.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL-COLLEGE CORRUPTION
De Sousa hold out of competition by Kansas…Guilt pleas in recruiting corruption case
UNDATED (AP) — Kansas forward Silvio De Sousa will be withheld from competition pending a review of his eligibility.
De Sousa’s name surfaced as part of the FBI’s investigation into corruption in college basketball. During the trial of former Adidas executive James Gatto, ex-AAU coach T.J. Gassnola testified that he facilitated payments to De Sousa’s guardian in an attempt to steer him toward Kansas. Gassnola denied that the Jayhawks’ coaching staff knew about the payments.
Gatto, business manager Christian Dawkins and amateur league director Merl Code were found guilty of fraud charges. The government had accused the three of participating in a scheme to funnel tens of thousands of dollars in secret payments to the families so the prospects would commit to Adidas-sponsored schools.
Prosecutors said the defendants committed fraud by concealing the payments that violated NCAA rules. Defense lawyers argued there was no evidence colleges suffered any harm.
