Jamestown Landfill Fatality *Name Release*
Jamestown (CSi) On October 27th, 2018 the ND Highway Patrol investigated a workplace incident at the City of Jamestown Landfill that involved a fatality.
At 3:22 pm, the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a workplace incident at the landfill. A contractor was working in an area of the landfill and was struck and run over by a dump truck and payloader. The male contractor, Danny Howard, 65 YOA, Grand Forks, ND, was pronounced dead at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center after being transported there by the Jamestown Ambulance Service.
The dump truck, a 1978 Ford 9000, was unoccupied at the time of the incident. The payloader, a Caterpillar 980G, was being operated by Aaron Wimpfheimer, 45 YOA, Grafton, ND. Wimpfheimer was uninjured.
When the incident occurred, the payloader was attempting to push start the dump truck. Wimpfheimer approached the dump truck from the rear in the payloader and began to push the dump truck forward. Howard was walking in front of the dump truck when the payloader began to push the dump truck. Howard was run over by both vehicles.
The dump truck and payloader were owned by On the Level Construction, Inc. from Grafton, ND. Howard and Wimpfheimer are employed by this company. On the Level Construction, Inc had been contracted by the City of Jamestown to conduct a cover project at the landfill and were working on this project at the time of the incident.
The Jamestown Police Department, Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office and Jamestown Ambulance Service assisted on scene.
