Jamestown (CSi) With eligible Stutsman County voters casting Early Voting ballots, 2,247 ballots were cast just before 3-p.m. Thursday.
That compares to the total for early voting in the November 2016 General Election at 2,395. That’s 12 percent of 19,963 residents eligible to vote in Stutsman County.
Friday is the final day for Early Voting at the Stutsman County Courthouse, from 8-a.m., to 5-p.m.
Absentee ballots are accepted though Monday November 5, with a postmark of November 5 or earlier.
Absentee ballots received after November 5th will be counted, with the proper postmark.
On election day, November 6th vote in person at the Jamestown Civic Center, from 7-a.m. to 7-p.m.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Kiwanis Club is excited to be holding their eighth food packing event for Kids Against Hunger and look forward to the opportunity to feed starving families across the region. Since the Kiwanis Club started the project they have packed over 1.1 million meals for those in need.
Once again, they are partnering with the Great Plains Food Bank to distribute the meals to those in need across North Dakota and parts of Western Minnesota. In 2017 Great Plains Food Bank used up their donation of 100,000 meals within six months.
Jamestown Kiwanis Club board member, Tim Perkins says, “Food stamps only go so far. We do this for the kids. Every year, when we talk about hungry children, Kiwanis says ‘we won’t stand for that.’ And every year, the community supports us. Jamestown is a kind and generous community.”
On a recent, Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown Kiwanis Club member Michelle Watne said, the next packing event is Saturday, November 3, from 9-a.m., to 12-noon, at Stutsman Harley Davidson in Jamestown, with the goal to pack another 80,000 meals. Each meal costs only 25¢, so gifts small or large make a big difference.
The meals of soy, rice, dehydrate vegetables, containing 21 essential vitamins are distributed throughout North Dakota and Minnesota through the Great Plains Food Bank.
Families need only to add boiling water to make the meal.
Donations can be made at First Community Credit Union, on the Jamestown Kiwanis Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/JamestownKiwanis or email JamestownKiwnais@gmail.com. www.gofundme.com/kids-against-hunger-2018, or directly to any Kiwanis member.
The Kiwanis greatly appreciates donation, and so will the families that you’re helping to feed.
Those unable to donate funds for the food, may consider donating their time. Approximately 300 volunteers will be needed to help package the meals.
The Kiwanis Club thanks Stutsman Harley Davidson for sharing their space with for the packaging event, yet again. AND to those that have already generously donated or volunteered to feed hungry families.
Valley City (CSi) The First Annual Farmers and Ranchers, Pitch Fork and Hoe Gathering Trade Show, is set for Friday and Saturday in the Valley City Eagles Club, free and open to the public.
Rod Fernow organized the event, and he says the it will have educational seminars, sheep and goat workshops, nutritional and organic crop advice.

ALEXANDER, N.D. (AP) — McKenzie County sheriff’s officials say officers shot and wounded a man in Alexander.
The sheriff’s department responded to a domestic disturbance involving an armed man Wednesday night. Authorities didn’t say what prompted officers to fire their weapons. The man is in stable condition.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been asked to review the shooting. The officers are on standard administrative leave.
The Spirit Lake Sioux tribe sued the state Tuesday seeking a temporary restraining order.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland in Bismarck ruled Thursday that the tribe’s allegations caused him concern but that he was denying the emergency motion because it would cause confusion so close to the election.
The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa sued over the voter ID requirements in 2016. The U.S. Supreme Court this year upheld the law.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Legendary musician David Crosby is the new voice of a campaign to legalize recreational marijuana in North Dakota.
The founding member of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and the Byrds is doing a radio ad that begins airing Thursday. KFGO says Crosby is encouraging voters to pass Measure 3 on the ballot to end adult marijuana arrests and let police focus on violent crime.
Opponents say legalizing marijuana will lead to an increase in violent crimes, impaired driving and workplace problems. Supporters of the measure dispute that.
The proposal seeks to legalize marijuana for people 21 and older and also seal the records of anyone convicted of a marijuana-related crime that would be made legal under the measure.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Former Vice President Joe Biden brushed aside a case of laryngitis to help Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp kick off a statewide tour as her race neared its end.
Biden’s first order of a business at the Fargo Air Museum Thursday was to apologize for having to whisper. He proceeded to quietly outline many problems in the country he said have been made worse by the “forces of hate” and the “lack of dignity in the national dialogue.”
Biden said there is no better example of character in public life than Heitkamp, and he urged attendees to help get out the vote in the final days before the election.
Heitkamp, who is seen as trailing in her re-election campaign against Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer, plans more than 20 stops in towns across North Dakota in a five-day trip being billed as the “Bring it Home Heidi” tour.
In world and national news…
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is expected to announce plans to deny asylum to migrants who try to enter the U.S. illegally between ports of entry as part of his latest election season response to two caravans of migrants heading toward the U.S.-Mexico border.
That’s according to three people familiar with the plans who spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly.
The White House announced earlier that the president would be making “brief remarks on the illegal immigration crisis” before he departs for a campaign rally in Missouri.
It’s unclear whether the restrictions would apply only to those traveling in the caravans or would extend beyond the caravans to all people trying to enter the country.
The announcement comes as the president has sought to focus attention on immigration while trying to drum up GOP enthusiasm heading into next Tuesday’s midterm elections.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Hundreds of Google employees in New York are walking off the job and gathering at a nearby park. It’s part of a worldwide protest employees are staging to complain about Google’s handling of sexual-misconduct claims.
Signs they are carrying have such messages as “Don’t Be Evil” and “Not OK Google.”
Designer Leeung Li Jo says she wants to show support for the “MeToo” movement “so we can have a comfortable working environment.”
The organizers are calling for an end to forced arbitration in cases of harassment and discrimination.
A week ago, a New York Times story detailed allegations of sexual misconduct against the creator of Google’s Android software, Andy Rubin. The report said Rubin received a $90 million severance package in 2014 even though Google thought the allegations were credible. Rubin has denied the allegations.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The anti-Semitic truck driver accused of gunning down 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue has pleaded not guilty to federal charges that could put him on death row.
Robert Bowers was arraigned Thursday, one day after a grand jury issued a 44-count indictment that charges him with murder, hate crimes, obstructing the practice of religion and other crimes.
It was his second brief appearance in a federal courtroom since the weekend massacre at Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood.
Authorities say the 46-year-old Bowers raged against Jews during and after the rampage. It was the deadliest attack on Jews in American history.
Funerals for the victims are being held all week.
JUCHITAN, Mexico (AP) — Mexican immigration authorities so far haven’t tried to detain migrants in largest caravan of Central Americans now walking through the southern part of the country. But it’s a different story with the second, smaller caravan of migrants about 200 miles behind them.
A federal official who was not authorized to be quoted by name says 153 migrants were detained Wednesday during highway inspections in the southernmost state of Chiapas.
While the precise size of that caravan is unclear, that could be equivalent to about 10 percent of those participating.
Mexico’s immigration agency does normally operate highway inspection checkpoints in the area near the Guatemalan border. But Wednesday’s detentions appear to mark a shift in enforcement strategy toward the caravans.
Officials haven’t tried to detain the first, larger group, instead offering free trips home or legal status in Mexico. But agents appear to be focusing on picking off smaller groups.
