Jamestown (CSi) Early voting in Stutsman County for the 2018 General Election ended Friday Nov 2 at 5 pm, with a total of 2839 ballots cast. That is a 444 “Early Vote” increase (18%) over the Nov 2016 General Election Early Vote total of 2,395.

In the 2016 General Election, nearly 11,000 votes were cast, which if that trend were to continue, some 26% of votes have been cast.

Spiritwood (WDAY) — The Cargill Malt plant “went dark” at the end of October, completing a shutdown process announced in April. The company cited in April this year that a change in the type of malt preferred by brewers as one of the reasons for the closing that meant that the plant’s 55 employees lost their jobs.
The Spiritwood plant produced a variety of malts for large- and small-scale brewers, and produced flour and cereal as byproducts.
JSDC, CEO, Connie Ova says, Cargill may still be looking at repurposing the plant for another operation within the company.
The North Dakota Department of Commerce, indicates that there may be state funds available to explore potential uses, but requests would have to come from the JSDC.
Cargill is the largest taxpayer in Stutsman County with a valuation of $46 million and a tax bill last year of about $393,000.

In world and national news…
WASHINGTON (AP) — The day of reckoning for America’s major political parties has nearly arrived.
Voters on Tuesday will decide the $5 billion debate between President Donald Trump’s take-no-prisoner politics and the Democratic Party’s super-charged campaign to end the GOP’s monopoly in Washington and statehouses across the nation.
There are indications that an oft-discussed “blue wave” may help Democrats seize control of at least one chamber of Congress. But two years after an election that proved polls and prognosticators wrong, nothing is certain on the eve of the first nationwide elections of the Trump presidency.
While he is not on the ballot, Trump himself has acknowledged that the 2018 midterms, above all, represent a referendum on his presidency.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia secretary of state’s office, which is run by Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp, says it is investigating an attempted hack of the state’s online voter database that will be used at polling places for Tuesday’s election.
The statement from Kemp’s office says it is investigating the state Democratic Party in connection with the hacking attempt, but it offered no evidence and didn’t specify allegations.
Elections-security advocates critical of Kemp say they have new evidence that Georgia’s online registered voter database managed by his office is subject to hacking that could alter voters’ information or remove them from the registered voter list altogether.
Kemp’s office says it notified federal officials. The FBI declined to comment.
Kemp’s opponent, Democrat Stacey Abrams, has called him “an architect of voter suppression.”
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — China says it regrets the U.S. decision to re-impose sanctions on Iran but will continue to uphold the nuclear deal Beijing agreed to as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters on Monday that the accord “should be comprehensively and effectively implemented” despite the fact that the United States pulled out of it in May.
Hua says: “We regret this decision by the U.S.”
She added that the international community objects to unilateral sanctions such as those brought by the U.S.
She also said China stood with those nations that have vowed to keep the agreement alive despite the U.S. withdrawal, and said Iran has been “strictly fulfilling its obligations” under the accord.
Hua urged all sides to keep in mind “long-term interests, fulfill their obligations and responsibilities and choose to stand on the right side of history.”
CORDOBA, Mexico (AP) — A big group of Central Americans has agreed to push toward Mexico City from a coastal state Monday, planning to exit a part of the country that has long been treacherous for migrants seeking to get to the United States.
In a thundering voice vote Sunday night at a gymnasium in Cordoba, about 1,000 members of a migrant caravan that has been moving northward through Mexico voted to try to get to the capital Monday by walking and hitching rides. Cordoba is 178 miles (286 kilometers) from the capital, which would be the group’s longest single-day journey yet for the caravan.
The migrants hope to regroup in the capital, seeking medical care and rest while they await stragglers. The caravan has found strength in numbers as it meanders north.
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A top Saudi human rights official has reiterated his government’s “regret and pain” over the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The killing of Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last month was likely to come up among representatives of more than 100 countries set to speak during the review of Saudi Arabia on Monday.
Other countries, including China, Mexico, Chad and Monaco, are also due to be reviewed in coming days by the 47-member U.N.-backed body.
