BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Two Bismarck police officers suffered minor injuries when their sport utility vehicle was struck by a car.
The Highway Patrol says the crash happened shortly before midnight Tuesday at a city intersection. Officers Tanner Hersch and Ryan Guggenberger were treated for unspecified injuries at a hospital and released.
The driver of the car also was taken to a hospital with injuries. The Bismarck Tribune reports police believe he was fleeing from other officers who wanted to make a traffic stop for no license plates and no temporary registration. Charges are pending against him.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Two people were taken to the hospital following a carbon monoxide leak in a Fargo building that houses a day care.
Fire officials say workers in the building caused the gas leak. Two adults were taken to the hospital. No children were affected. KFGO says firefighters secured the day care children in the building so they wouldn’t have to go out into the cold. Everyone else was asked to leave the building.
The building was later cleared of carbon monoxide.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Watford City accountant has been convicted of wire fraud in a case linked to a man found guilty of ordering two deaths in an oil patch murder-for-hire plot.
Rene Johnson was accused of diverting investors’ funds in her business, RLJ Factoring, without their knowledge for a high-risk loan to an associate of James Henrikson. Investors eventually got their money back, plus interest.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that Johnson was convicted of wire fraud Wednesday in federal court in Bismarck but found not guilty of three other charges related to mail fraud and making false statements.
Defense attorney Irvin Nodland declined comment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gary Delorme said the verdict puts an end to a lengthy investigation. Sentencing wasn’t immediately scheduled.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Only a few dozen Native American voters appear to have been affected on Election Day by recent changes to North Dakota’s voter identification requirements that many tribal members believe were aimed at suppressing their vote. Advocacy groups credit an intense effort to ensure a strong Native vote that included free qualifying IDs and free rides to the polls.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The day after his election to the U.S. Senate, Republican Kevin Cramer is assuring North Dakota farmers that he has President Donald Trump’s ear on trade and that Trump will get them a good _ and maybe even a great _ deal. Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp cast herself as a champion of farmers in her unsuccessful re-election bid against Cramer and made trade and tariffs a centerpiece of her campaign, saying it will hurt farmers and the state’s economy.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — An idea that couldn’t gain traction in the North Dakota Legislature is now a reality for public officials after voters approved a constitutional amendment to overhaul government ethics oversight. The initiative billed as an anti-corruption amendment has provisions to restrict lobbying and create an independent ethics commission, among other things. North Dakota is one of a handful of states without such a panel, which Democrats have unsuccessfully promoted for years.

Saints ink Dez Bryant
UNDATED (AP) — The New Orleans Saints’ potent passing attack may have become even more explosive.
The Saints have signed veteran receiver Dez Bryant for the remainder of the season. Bryant spent his first eight years in the NFL with Dallas and caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns for the Cowboys last season before he was released in a salary cap move.
It remains unclear to what extent Bryant will play when the Saints visit Cincinnati on Sunday.

In other NFL news:

Backup Brock Osweiler (AHS’-wy-lur) will make his fifth consecutive start. Coach Adam Gase says the goal is for Tannehill to return for the Indianapolis game Nov. 25. The Dolphins have a bye next week.
— Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold has a boot on his right foot and isn’t practicing, leaving his status for the team’s game Sunday against Buffalo in doubt. Darnold was injured during the Jets’ 13-6 loss at Miami last Sunday but finished the game. If he is unable to start, 39-year-old backup Josh McCown would take his place.
— Dolphins safety Reshad Jones is expressing no regrets and offering no explanation for mysteriously taking himself out of last weekend’s win over the Jets. He watched the second half from the sideline and now says he and the Dolphins are now on the same page, and that he’ll play Sunday at Green Bay.

The 24-year-old Swanson hit .238 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 136 games last season. He was left off the National League Division Series roster against the Dodgers after tearing a ligament in his left hand late in the season. His hand and wrist were examined at the time.

Kevin Harvick stripped of berth in NASCAR title race
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Kevin Harvick’s shot at a NASCAR Cup title may have ended with a failed inspection.
Harvick has been stripped of his automatic berth in the championship race after NASCAR ruled his car had an illegal spoiler when he won at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday. He enters this weekend’s race at Phoenix fourth among the remaining eight playoff drivers, three points above the cutline.
Harvick must also close out the final two races of the season without crew chief Rodney Childers and car chief Robert Smith, who were suspended due to Sunday’s infraction.
Joey Logano is the lone driver to have locked up one of the four spots in next weekend’s championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
MARYLAND-PLAYER DEATH
New U. of Maryland board chair apologizes over player death
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The University System of Maryland Board of Regents has a new chair, and her first public act was to apologize for how university officials responded to a player’s death.
The Baltimore Sun reports Linda Gooden apologized Wednesday to the family of 19-year-old Terrapins football player Jordan McNair, who collapsed from heatstroke on the field in May and later died. The 17-member board has spent weeks overseeing two investigations into his death.
University President Wallace Loh said he would resign, but the board chair, James Brady, announced that head football coach DJ Durkin and athletic director Damon Evans would keep their positions. Backlash quickly prompted Loh to fire Durkin, and Brady resigned the next day.
Gooden says the board now understands its personnel recommendations were wrong.
In world and national news…
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump and Democratic congressional leaders have bluntly previewed the fault lines to come under a divided government. Trump on Wednesday threatened to go after House Democrats who try to investigate him, while Rep. Nancy Pelosi said her party would be “a check and balance” against the White House. Trump and Pelosi also spoke about working together where they can but indicated they would butt heads when challenged, particularly over any investigations of the Republican president.
