WASHINGTON (AP) — Prince Charles plans to attend the funeral for former President George H.W. Bush. The prince’s official residence, Clarence House, tweeted on Tuesday that he would attend the state funeral on Wednesday in Washington. The prince will be representing his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who over the weekend called the 41st president “a patriot, serving his country with honor and distinction in office and during the Second World War.”

METULA, Israel (AP) — Israeli bulldozers and army vehicles have been deployed to the border with Lebanon as the military launched an operation to “expose and thwart” tunnels built by the militant Hezbollah group. The tunnels, years in the making, stretch from Lebanon into northern Israel, though the military says they are not currently being used by Hezbollah. Residents of the pastoral Israeli border town of Metula say they had been hearing digging noises for years and had reported their suspicions to the military.

PARIS (AP) — France has announced a suspension of fuel tax and utility hikes in an effort to appease a protest movement that plunged Paris into chaos last weekend. Edouard Philippe says the planned increase, which has provoked violent riots and was set to be introduced in January, will be suspended for six months. Philippe says “no tax is worth putting the nation’s unity in danger.”

Goldman Sachs economists say that the amount of “concrete progress” made between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jingping over the weekend “appears to have been quite limited.”

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Republicans plan dramatic votes in the state Legislature in a sweeping attempt to limit the powers of the incoming Democratic governor and attorney general. Opponents say the moves are a last-gasp power grab and attempt to invalidate the election defeat of Republican Gov. Scott Walker. If the Legislature approves the measures Tuesday, they would head to Walker for his signature just five weeks before he is replaced by Democrat Tony Evers.
