(CSi)   –  According to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, Kentucky-based CTI Foods LLC has issued a nationwide recall for 29,028 pounds of “Jimmy Dean HEAT ‘n SERVE Original SAUSAGE LINKS Made with Pork & Turkey.” The products, sold in 23.4 ounce pouches, may contain pieces of metal in the meat.

The affected products have a Use By date of Jan. 31, 2019, with a case code A6382168 and a time stamp range of 11:58 through 01:49. The back of the product packaging also lists establishment number “EST. 19085.”

The affected items were produced and packaged on Aug. 4 and shipped to an establishment in Tennessee before being distributed to various retail stores in the U.S.

According to WCMH, the issue was discovered on Monday, Dec. 10, when the USDA was notified of five consumer complaints about metal pieces in the sausages. The USDA says there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.

Consumers who purchased the affected products are urged not to eat them. They should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

CTI Foods and Jimmy Dean did not say what caused the possible contamination “with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of metal.”
