USA Today reports Kimberly-Clark issued a recall of its U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency, in the U.S. and Canada due to a “quality-related defect.”

The company said consumers have complained about the products unraveling, sometimes leaving pieces inside the body. Some users required medical attention to remove the pieces; there will also reports of infection, irritation, injury and abdominal pain.

The affected products are all U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency, manufactured between Oct. 7, 2016 and Oct. 16, 2018, and distributed across the United States and Canada between Oct. 17, 2016 and Oct. 23, 2018. The company said a website for customers to search the lot numbers on the bottom of their packages to check if their tampons are included in this recall.

If you have the recalled tampons, stop using the product immediately and contact Kimberly-Clark’s Consumer Service team at 1-888-255-3499 for information. There is no need to return the product to a store, the company said.

All other varieties of tampons, including U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Super Absorbency or Super Plus Absorbency, are not affected by the recall.
