Washington (Rep. Cramer’s Office) – Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement after a federal judge in Texas ruled on the constitutionality of Obamacare Friday.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, it is always in the best interest of the American people to overturn unconstitutional laws. This ruling will likely be appealed and it will not impact insurance premiums or plans for 2019. It presents an opportunity for our divided government to pass bipartisan health care reform which protects people with pre-existing conditions, reduces premium costs and deductibles for families and businesses, and lowers health care costs.”
The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act stripped from the Affordable Care Act the individual mandate requiring people to buy health insurance, calling it unconstitutional. The lawsuit suggested if the individual mandate is unconstitutional, the rest of the law cannot stand without it, and also violates the Constitution.
