Marjorie (Marge) Lange, 87, of Jamestown, died Friday in Jamestown.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Chapel at Ava Maria Village, with visitation one hour prior to both services. Eddy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marge Lange was born July 26, 1931 in Jamestown to Adwolt and Ruth (Butts) Scott. She attended grade school in Rose Township near Spiritwood through eighth grade and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1950, where she was class valedictorian. She was the Stutsman County Dairy Princess, attended Jamestown College for one year and in 1951 married William (Billy) Lange in Jamestown. They farmed together near Eldridge, starting from scratch and building a successful grain and livestock farm. She was the cook at the Eldridge School, started her own drapery business and was instrumental in getting the Jamestown Community Credit Union established. She served on the board of directors for the Jamestown Credit Union and state Credit Union and was in the inaugural class in the North Dakota Credit Union Hall of Fame.

She was a faithful member at St. John’s Lutheran Church and was involved in numerous roles, including teaching Bible School, WELCA, the church council and her great love – the church quilting program where she helped make thousands of quilts that were given to people in need throughout North Dakota and the world.

She was a 4-H leader with the Eldridge Elves, a member of the Homemakers Club, a judge at the Stutsman County Fair and was on the Jamestown Senior Citizens board. She was a surrogate mother to many young men on the farm and was “Grandma Marge” to many children.

She was an avid gardener, preserved much of what she grew, was an excellent baker and loved her family, good friends, flowers and butterflies.

Because of health issues she moved to the Heritage Center three years ago where she made many new friends and renewed old friendships and didn’t miss an opportunity to participate in the many trips and activities there.

She was a generous, hard-working woman who never complained about anything and always had a smile. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children: Dr. Dennis (Dr. Abigail Ring) Lange, Audubon, Minnesota, Dr. Darwin (Heidi Heitkamp) Lange, Mandan, North Dakota and Carolyn (Phillip) Hatlestad, New London, Minnesota and seven grandchildren: Aletha Lange, Nathan Lange, Kaitlin Lange, Erik Hatlestad, Adam Hatlestad, Devin Lange and Andrew Hatlestad. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy (Dave) Huckle, Lidgerwood and brother, Ken (Cathy) Scott of Spiritwood, nieces and nephews and special friend, Melvin Gahner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2012, brother-in-law Kenneth Lange, sister-in-law Ruth (Lyle) Cumber and special long-time friends Velma Roeske and Lorraine Fairfield.
