Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called to a tractor fire inside a building in Millarton Wednesday just before 5-p.m.
The location was at 4835 77th Avenue, Southeast.
The shop fire at 4:22 p.m. was at 7645 17th Street Southeast.
Fire Chief Jerome Dunwoody, says, the 50-by-100 steel frame building owned by Marvin Allen, contained an ag equipment repair shop, was a total loss.
A fertilizer business there sold building materials, hardware and garden supplies.
He says on Tuesday that the furnace was being worked on.
Two fire units and eight firefighters cleared the scene at 6:56 p.m
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Jamestown (CSi) Starting February 1, 2019, Stutsman County will be changing its emergency notification service from CodeRED to a company called Everbridge.
The transition to the new notification system began in early November and has been a continuous process ever since. CodeRED will continue to be utilized until the switch is made on February 1. In December, individuals in Stutsman County, receiving their annual property tax statements in the mail received an insert briefly explaining the change in notification services.
On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Stutsman County Emergency Manager/9-1-1 Coordinator, Jerry Bergquist explained, as with CodeRED, all land-line phone numbers are automatically included in the new “Stutsman Alerts” system powered by Everbridge for emergency notifications. This does not include weather alerts.
Both land-lines and cell phones will continue to be able to register for as many as six types of weather alerts.
He said, if your land-line and/or cell phone was registered for weather alerts or emergency notifications through the CodeRED system, you will need to re-register to continue receiving those same notifications from the new “Stutsman Alerts” system powered by Everbridge.
The database of landlines used by the 911 system was imported into the Everbridge system.
He said, Everbridge provides users more flexibility and is costing the county less money.
He pointed out that the Everbridge system allows users to register multiple addresses to receive alerts, such as a home, work, cabin or farm address.
Everbridge also gives the user more control over what kinds of alerts they receive and even allows the user to block out times they do not want to be disturbed with a safety alert.
Register by going to the Stutsman County website (www.stutsmancounty.gov) and clicking on the “Stutsman Alerts” icons at the top or bottom of the page. For those without computer access, register by calling Stutsman County Emergency Management at 701-252-9093. There is no charge to register.
He adds even after February 1 when the switch to the “Stutsman Alerts” system occurs, individuals can still register their cell phones for emergency notifications.
Anyone with questions or needing help in registering or who do not have internet access should contact Stutsman County Emergency Management at 701-252-9093, for information over the phone.
Jerry pointed out that the information is not shared even with law enforcement officers. It is not used for any other purposes than to send out alerts.

Jamestown (JRMC) — Congratulations to team Get ‘ER done, the top point earner for New Year New You challenge week two. Team Get ‘ER done includes seven participants from the Emergency Department at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
NYNY is an eight-week wellness challenge that encourages participants to develop positive lifestyle changes.
NYNY is about exercising and eating right. It’s also about staying healthy. One way to improve or maintain health is through proper foot care, especially during winter.
JRMC Podiatrist/ Foot & Ankle Surgeon, Dr. Kayla Emter, says, “An essential role of Vitamin D is to absorb calcium, which further promotes bone health and growth. If Vitamin D levels are low, which is common in winter when individuals aren’t getting enough sun, the bones in a person’s feet and ankles may not be strong enough to support the body. This can lead to pain and stress fractures.”
Take care of those feet and walk, skip or jump to your next community event. Attending a community activity outside of normal activities will yield each participant five bonus points this week. In addition, attendees can earn extra points for the work-friendly Lose Your Lap exercises and the more intense High-Intensity Interval Training.
Dr. Emter says, “We don’t always think about how important healthy feet are to a healthy life. Healthy feet mean we can exercise to maintain and improve our physical health. Healthy feet also allow us to work, take care of family and visit friends, meaning we can care for our social and mental health.”
Team points are due by 8 a.m. on Tuesday. To learn more about NYNY or two submit points, visit www.jrmcnd.com/nyny. View the full list of teams at www.jrmcnd.com/nyny/teams-standings/.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo man has been sentenced to serve four years in prison for robbing a jewelry store at gunpoint.
Authorities say Victor Velazquez held up a Riddles Jewelry store in June 2018, threatening employees and customers with a handgun. He was later stopped and arrested without incident on Interstate 29 south of Fargo.
KFGO radio reports that Velazquez pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony robbery count. He was sentenced to six years with two suspended and also ordered to pay more than $5,100 in restitution.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Ruth Buffalo tearfully pitched a bill to fellow lawmakers Wednesday that would collect data on missing and murdered Native Americans in North Dakota, a situation she described as crisis.
“We know data tells a story,” Buffalo told the House Judiciary Committee. “If there is no data available, then the issue does not exist.”
Buffalo, the first female Native American Democrat elected to the state Legislature, said she was working on an amendment with the state Attorney General’s office that would include data on all missing people but that would highlight indigenous people.
Chief Deputy Attorney General Troy Seibel said the state does not collect information on missing people in North Dakota. He said the state supports Buffalo’s bill and is working with her to craft amendments that would include data on all missing people in North Dakota.
The bill will return to the committee later for review, before going to the full House for consideration.
The agency estimates the initial cost of the establishing data collection at $75,000.
Buffalo said collecting such data would help solve crimes and “prevent further tragedies from occurring.”
