Jamestown  (uj.edu) The University of Jamestown hockey team withstood a four-goal flurry in the third period by Eastern Michigan, holding on for a 6-5 win at Wilson Arena Friday night.

Leading 5-3 near the midway point of the third period, Allan Pruss (JR/Red Deer, Alberta) scored on a shorthanded breakaway to give the Jimmies a 6-3 lead.

Eastern Michigan cut the deficit to 6-4 on Tim Conlin’s goal at 17:52, then made it a one-goal game at 19:55 on Hunter Soden’s second of the night. The Eagles had pulled goaltender Kevin O’Shea for an extra attacker with 33 seconds left, and the strategy paid off. A three-goal second period, which included goals by Trevor Okino (JR/Richmond, British Columbia), Ned Simpson (JR/Kitchener, Ontario)’s first career tally, and Todd’s second of the night, made it a 5-1 contest heading to the third.

Soden and Dan Miller scored in a span of 7:22 to make it a two-goal game before Pruss’s eventual game-winner.

Todd (two goals, one assist) and Michael Pruss (JR/Red Deer, Alberta) (three assists) both had three-point nights. Simpson also added an assist and helpers also went out to Josh Stephens (FR/Bayreuth, Germany), Cole McKechney (JR/Calgary, Alberta), Jason Richter (JR/Cranbrook, British Columbia), and Cole Sonstebo (SR/Fergus Falls, Minn. ).
