Arlo T. Maag, 87 of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully January 26, 2019, at Ave Maria Village with family by his side.

Arlo was born January 20, 1932 to Theophil and Rebecca Maag on their farm near Tripp, SD. At age 4 he moved with his parents to a farm near Forbes, ND, where he graduated from high school. Arlo entered the Service serving in the Pacific (Korean Theatre) with the 7th Fleet of the United States Navy. After his military service, Arlo settled in Jamestown, ND and worked in the banking and insurance industry.

Arlo was married to Janice Hasz, and to this union his daughter Jaqueline was born. When Janice passed away, Arlo and Jacque continued to live in Jamestown where Arlo met Karen Bartkowski. Arlo and Karen were united in marriage on April 18, 1972 at St. James Basilica in Jamestown. Shortly after their marriage, Arlo and Karen were transferred to Langdon, ND to accept a banking position. Arlo continued to work in banking. He served most of his banking career and retired with First State Bank of Munich, ND. Arlo and Karen moved back to Jamestown in 2007.

Arlo was active in many civic organizations including the Elks, Eagles, American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Devils Lake, ND Knights of Columbus. He was also a longstanding member of St. James Basilica. Arlo participated in the Jaycees, where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for the city of Jamestown and an honorary life membership in the Senate of the Junior Chamber of Commerce International; becoming only the 15th North Dakotan to receive the honor.

Arlo was heartbroken when Jacque passed away unexpectedly. Subsequent years were spent following his grandchildren’s activities. He was the happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Arlo enjoyed playing and watching baseball, dancing, pinochle, playing golf and his five o’clock beer.

Arlo is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen, his grandchildren; Tina (Matthew) Christenson, Tiffany (Gary) Dawson, and Travis (Diana) Finck, great-grandchildren; Thalia and Karena Christenson, Kendra, Jaxton, Mya, and Naaric Dawson, and Parker and Hudson Finck, his brother Charles Maag, Sister-in-law; Janice Roaldson (Rodney), Brother-in-law; Ron Bartkowski (Glenda Hoffer), numerous nieces and nephews, and many special friends who were like family.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; Janice, his daughter; Jacqueline Stroh; his parents, his mother and father in law; Tony and Magdalene Bartkowski, a Sister-in-law; Helen Bartkowski, a sister-in-law; Bev Bartkowski and one great-granddaughter; Laiah Jane Dawson.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Rosary: 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 4, 2019 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown, with a prayer service to follow.

Inurnment: 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
