Jamestown (uj.edu) There was no shortage of drama Monday night at Harold Newman Arena, as the No.4 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University Tigers and the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team needed four overtimes to decide a winner.
In the longest Great Plains Athletic Conference game since 2004, and just one of three four-overtime games in NAIA women’s basketball history, the Tigers came away with a 98-92 victory..
The Jimmies led 66-64 with .08 seconds left in regulation, and following a DWU timeout, the Tigers inbounded the ball on their bench side. Sarah Carr made the basket as time expired to send the game to the first overtime.
UJ had an 82-79 lead in the third overtime but DWU’s Sydney Halling connected on a game-tying three-pointer with 30 seconds left, forcing the fourth overtime.
The Tigers led 88-84 with 2:53 to play, but the Jimmies pulled within a point at 90-89 after Paige Schmidt (JR/Tappen, ND)’s three-pointer at the 1:30 mark. Meghan Travis hit a back-breaking three-pointer with 48 seconds left to make it 93-89, effectively sealing the game for DWU.
Allison Jablonsky (JR/Blaine, Minn.) tied a career-high with 19 points for UJ (12-14, 6-12 GPAC). Also in double figures for the Jimmies were Schmidt with 13, Emma Stoehr (SO/Woodbury, MN) with 12, Grace Benz (FR/Steele, ND) and Mackensi Higlin (SO/Mandan, ND) each with 11, and Jenna Doyle (SR/Princeton, MN) with 10.
