Jamestown (uj.edu) The 18th-ranked University of Jamestown men’s basketball teams avenged one of their earlier-season losses, taking care of No. 17 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University 102-63 Monday night at Harold Newman Arena.
Jon Purnintun scored 36 points and made 5-of-8 three-point attempts to lead the Jimmies. Kevin Oberweiser (SR/Drummond, MT) added 18 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, while Brock Schrom (SO/Grand Rapids, MN) added 14 points and Terrell Alfred (JR/Orlando, FL) 13.
DWU tied the game at 23 following Nick Harden’s three-pointer with 6:04 in the half. A 12-2 UJ run covering 2:26 gave the home team a 10-point lead, and the Jimmies took an 11-point advantage into the break.
The Tigers were able to whittle down the lead to eight points with 18:28 in the second half, but Jamestown reeled off 10 straight points to increase the lead to 18.
Jamestown held DWU (17-8, 10-7 GPAC) scoreless for five minutes and 41 seconds, and by that time the advantage ballooned to 37 points.
UJ shot 48.6 percent from the field but were over 50 percent (53.6) from three-point range, making 15 of 28 attempts.
The Jimmies (23-4, 13-4 GPAC) outrebounded DWU 47-41 and turned the ball over just six times.
