LaVetta Anderson, 78, Valley City, ND passed away at Mercy Hospital on February 13, 2019.

The funeral service will be at Messiah Lutheran Church in Fingal, ND on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM at the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home in Valley City with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. She will be buried at Memory Gardens near Valley City in the spring.

LaVetta Marie Sorensen was born December 30, 1940 in Valley City, ND to Anton and Mary (Johnson) Sorensen. She grew up in Valley City, graduating from high school in 1959. On January 30, 1960, LaVetta married John O. Anderson at Faith Lutheran Church. She worked in Muriel Wicks dental office as a dental assistant for many years. In 1973, she joined John fulltime running the family farm. LaVetta was a dedicated farm wife, helping in the field, working in her garden, and cooking many meals. Nobody left her home hungry.

Throughout her career as a dental assistant, she was a member of the ND Dental Assistants Association and held each office in the organization. She was a member of the Fingal Legion Auxiliary and Homemakers. Her membership at Messiah Lutheran Church was of utmost importance to her.

She held various offices in the church and was active with the quilters group. LaVetta devoted a lot of time to visiting people in nursing homes, delivering quilts to Veterans, making schools kits, and baby care packages. She had a very generous heart and was always giving. LaVetta was fond of robins, snowmen, rainbows, and looked forward to spring and returning to the farm. LaVetta enjoyed playing Yahtzee, cards, doing crosswords and putting puzzles together in the winter.

She is survived by her husband, John; son John Jr. (Beth); grandchildren, John R. (Melony), William (Kayla) and Jennifer. In the past year, she was excited to have become a great grandma to John Jameson and Zoey Jean. LaVetta is also survived by her brother, Gary (Evie) Sorensen, Goddaughter, Emily Korbl, Godson, Monte Anderson, and many dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Mary (Johnson) Sorensen, four brothers, Lyle, Merritt, Mylo, Darwin and a sister, Vivian Welken.
