Aberdeen, SD (from uj.edu) Courtney Espinoza’s double broke a tie in the bottom of the sixth.

The Jimmies went on to defeat Mount Marty SD College Saturday evening,  4 to 3.

Jamestown fell behind 1-0 in the second inning, but took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half on a two-run home run by Morgan Flann (SO/Lake Lillian, MN).

The Lancers tied the game in the top of the third, but Flann put the Jimmies back in front with a two-out single to make it 3-2.

Alazea Serrano led off the top of the sixth with a solo home run to draw Mount Marty level.

In the bottom half, Steph Cota (FR/Tucson, Ariz.) reached on an error, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Flann. With two out, Espinoza doubled to deep right-center, scoring Cota and giving Jamestown the lead.

Kat Miska (SO/Pequot Lakes, MN) (1-0) pitched four innings in relief to get the win. She allowed one run on four hits, striking out seven. Flann and Mariah Wick (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) had four of the five Jimmie hits.

A five-run fourth inning by Dordt (Iowa) sent the Jimmies to defeat in Saturday’s first game of the day as the Defenders won 5-2.

Kassi Ward (SO/Olympia, WA)’s two-run home run in the top of the first accounted for all of the UJ runs. Steph Cota was 2-for-3, while Morgan Geiszler (SO/Horace, ND) and Caitlyn Courtney (JR/Caldwell, TX) also had hits.

Katie Merchant (FR/South Haven, Minn.) (3-2) took the loss, giving up three runs in three innings. She struck out five and walked five, but did not allow a base hit.

Jamestown (6-3) is back in action March 2-8 at the Tucson Invitational Games in Tucson, Ariz.
