Cole Sonstebo (SR/Fergus Falls, Minn. ) had three goals and the 17th-ranked University of Jamestown hockey team used a four-goal second period to defeat No. 14 Missouri State University 6-3 Thursday evening at Wilson Arena.

Sonstebo tallied a pair of power play goals just 55 seconds apart in the second period, helping turn a 2-1 Jimmie lead into a 4-1 advantage heading into the thrd period.

Michael Pruss (JR/Red Deer, Alberta) scored a shorthanded goal at 1:03 of the third period to make it 5-1.

Brennan Anderson put the Bears up 1-0 at 18:20 of the the first before Jamestown answered with two early second period scores. Dylan Haney (SO/Brandon, Manitoba) tied the game 1:56 into the second on assists from Michael and Allan Pruss (JR/Red Deer, Alberta), then Allan scored at 3:40 from Michael and Trevor Okino (JR/Richmond, British Columbia) to make it 2-1.

Josh Bell helped Missouri State (28-11-3-1) get within two after netting twice on the power play. Sonstebo finished off his three-goal night with an empty-netter coming with 23 seconds left.

Tyson Brouwer (JR/Lethbridge, Alberta) had 31 saves for the Jimmies, who improved to 18-12-0-1 on the season. Bailey Stephens allowed four goals on 16 shots before being replaced by Brady Griffin following Sonstebo’s second goal. Griffin stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced.

The two teams meet again in Wilson Arena Friday at 7 p.m
