Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Area Grief Support Team is offering a grief support group for anyone who is grieving the loss of someone important to them, whether the loss is recent or from years past. The group will meet once a week at 7:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, 302 2nd Ave SE in Jamestown beginning on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 and will run for 6 weeks.
In his book, Understanding Your Grief, internationally recognized expert in the field of loss and grief, Dr. Alan Wolfelt states, “You can benefit from a connectedness that comes from people who have also had a death in their lives. Support groups, where people come together and share the common bond of experience, can be invaluable in helping you and your grief and supporting your need to mourn long after the event of the death”
In our fast paced society, people who have had a significant loss are often expected to be ‘over it’ in a matter of a few weeks. They may even expect this of themselves. In reality, it may take years for someone to work through his or her grief. The support group experience allows individuals to express grief in their own unique way and on their own unique timetable.
The group is free of charge, however, participants are asked to register to ensure that enough materials are available. Participants should plan to attend all six sessions. For more information, or to register, please call Diane at 701-320-4915 or Eileen 701-269-4521.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A sustained cold snap in North Dakota is costing some ranchers thousands of dollars and is stressful for their cattle, especially as calving season approaches.
The North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network says parts of the state have experienced temperatures below freezing for more than 40 days, which is worse than usual for this time of year.
Bismarck Tribune reports that agriculture experts say pregnant cows eat about twice as much during the cold to prevent weight loss. Ranchers must provide windbreaks and extra bedding to prevent their cattle from suffering cold stress. Cattle must have access to water that isn’t frozen.
Livestock producers whose cattle die in extreme weather conditions can apply to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Livestock Indemnity Program for grants to cover the loss.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Minot man serving 40 years in prison for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend is appealing his murder conviction to the state Supreme Court.
A jury last May convicted 28-year-old Bradley Morales in the August 2017 death of 25-year-old Sharmaine Leake after an apparent domestic dispute. She died six days later when her family took her off life support.
Morales was sentenced last September.
The Minot Daily News reports Morales argues in his appeal that the trial judge violated his constitutional rights by committing procedural errors and by denying Morales’ request to represent himself.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the appeal March 19 in Bismarck.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns has been cleared to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves following a highway automobile crash he called himself fortunate to have escaped alive.
Towns spoke to reporters Monday before Minnesota’s game against Sacramento. He said he was on his way Thursday to meet the team at the airport, with assistant strength and conditioning coach Kurt Joseph driving, when a semitruck slammed into the back of their vehicle. They were stopped on the interstate because of an accident in front of them.
Towns emerged with only minor injuries. He took a commercial flight to New York, but he was held out of the game Friday and again Saturday at Milwaukee per the league’s concussion protocol. That ended his streak of 303 consecutive games started, the longest to start an NBA career since 1970-71.
