In world and national news…

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — The roller coaster of U.S.-North Korea relations revs up again this week when President Donald Trump meets for a second time with Kim Jong Un. Kim once called Trump a dotard and now pledges to denuclearize his nation and turn his energy toward developing his country’s economy. That erratic history is contributing to uncertainty heading into this week’s talks in Vietnam.WASHINGTON (AP) — The top U.S. general for homeland defense says there is no military threat coming from the southern border with Mexico, but his focus in on “very real” threats from China and Russia to the north. Top Republicans are working to keep GOP defections low enough to ensure that a Trump veto would stand. The House chamber is expected to approve the measure Tuesday afternoon and send it to the Republican-held Senate, where it would take only a handful of GOP defections to pass.WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s ex-lawyer is now an ex-lawyer. Michael Cohen was officially disbarred on Tuesday while he was in Washington giving closed-door testimony to the Senate intelligence committee. A New York court ruled that Cohen’s guilty plea last November automatically stripped him of his eligibility to practice law.
