BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A New Town woman who embezzled from a Three Affiliated Tribes program while working as an administrative assistant has been sentenced to $44,000 in restitution and a year of supervised release.
Authorities say 33-year-old Melissa Mandan stole money from a tribal program that helps families whose young children need speech and physical therapy. Mandan said she used the money to support a drug habit.
Mandan pleaded guilty last October to a theft count in a deal with federal prosecutors. The Bismarck Tribune reports she was sentenced Monday.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo man is accused of stealing a semi loaded with Oreo cookies.
Court documents filed this week in Cass County District court accuse 27-year-old John Crowell of stealing the semi at Northpoint Hornbacher’s store last November.
The Bismarck Tribune reports the semi’s driver told police he left the vehicle running while he went into the store to fill out some paperwork. When he returned five minutes later, the semi was nowhere in sight.
The semi and trailer are valued at $9,000.
A Moorhead police officer arrested Crowell a short time after spotting a semi matching the description of the stolen vehicle.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A New York City woman severely injured while protesting the Dakota Access oil pipeline in North Dakota says she deserves an opportunity to gather more evidence from the government to prove her claim in federal court that she was intentionally targeted with a concussion grenade.
Attorneys for Sophia Wilansky are fighting a government effort to have her lawsuit thrown out for lack of proof that her civil rights were violated due to excessive force by law enforcement.
Wilansky suffered a left arm injury in an explosion during a violent November 2016 clash between police and opponents of the $3.8 billion pipeline that Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners built to move North Dakota oil to Illinois. She maintains she has limited use of the arm despite five surgeries and seeks millions of dollars for alleged excessive force, assault, negligence, emotional distress and defamation.
Wilansky sued local and state law enforcement officials and Morton County in November, alleging that an unknown law officer threw a flashbang device directly at her. Government officials maintain the explosion was caused by a propane canister that protesters rigged to explode, and last month they asked a federal judge to dismiss the lawsuit , saying there is no evidence officers violated her rights through excessive force.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (uj.edu) — Thursday’s victory by the 13th-ranked University of Jamestown men’s basketball team was noteworthy for several reasons.
-It marked the second time in 10 days the Jimmies defeated the No. 2 team in the NAIA.
-It was the first loss at home for Morningside (Iowa) College in 31 games.
-Most importantly, it gave Jamestown its first Great Plains Athletic Conference championship in its first year as a member of the conference.
Kevin Oberweiser (SR/Drummond, MT) scored 20 points and Jon Purintun (SR/Linton, ND) had 13 of his 15 come in the second half as Jamestown defeated Morningside 86-84 Tuesday evening in front of 1600 fans at RVSC-Allee Gym.
The title game victory capped off a remarkable first season in the GPAC for the Jimmies, picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll. Jamestown played to a 15-5 conference record, earning the second seed for the postseason tournament.
The first half saw both teams shoot the ball extremely well, with UJ connecting on 19 of 33 attempts (57.6 percent) and the Mustangs scorching the nets at a 70.4 percent clip (19 of 27). The Jimmies hit on eight of 18 three-point attempts while Morningside was five of 11.
Morningside had early leads of 9-2 and 11-4 before Jamestown took a 16-15 lead on a Terrell Alfred (JR/Orlando, FL) layup with 12:27 in the half. UJ’s biggest lead in the first came after Jack Frazier (JR/Salem, OR) hit his third three-pointer of the half, making it 30-26 with 8:01 remaining.
The Mustangs led by as many as five with just under three minutes before half and took a 49-46 lead into the locker room.
After two ties and seven lead changes to start the second half, Morningside held onto a four-point lead following a Tyler Borchers layup with 12:39 in the game. A 6-0 Jimmie run capped off with a basket by Purintun gave UJ a 63-61 lead.
Jamestown had a six-point advantage following an Oberweiser three-pointer at the 7:56 mark, and Morningside would get no closer than 71-71, when Borchers scored just over a minute later. The lead held between one and six for the remainder of the contest.
Brody Egger missed a pair of free throws with the score 86-84, and Jack Talley (SO/Sioux Falls, SD) rebounded the second miss to end the game.
In addition to his 20 points, Oberweiser finished with seven assists and five rebounds. Purintun dished out five assists and recorded a pair of steals. Brock Schrom (SO/Grand Rapids, MN) chipped in with 12 points while Isaiah Dobson (JR/Stillwater, MN) added 11 points and four assists. Frazier and Brady Birch (SO/Melrose, MN) both had nine off the bench. Talley and Alfred each ended with five points.
Borchers had a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds and was joined in double figures by Egger and Matt Hahn with 15, and Alex Borchers with 13.
The Jimmies (28-5) and Mustangs (27-3) will find out their NAIA National Tournament opponents Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Pascal Siakam (see-AH’-kam) delivered 25 points and Kawhi (kah-WY’) Leonard added 21 as the Raptors blasted Boston, 118-95. Serge Ibaka scored 14 points for Toronto, which has won eight straight at home versus the Celtics.
The game became a rout while the Raptors outscored the Celts 36-13 in the second quarter, sending Toronto to its 15th victory in its last 17 home games.
Marcus Morris had a team-high 17 points in Boston’s fifth loss in seven games.
Checking out Tuesday’s other NBA action:
— Nikola Jokic (NEE’-koh-lah YOH’-kihch) just missed a triple-double and the Nuggets blew most of an 18-point lead before earning their fifth straight win, 121-112 against Oklahoma City. Jokic provided five free throws in the final moments and finished with 36 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds to help the Nuggets improve to 3-0 versus the Thunder this season. Will Barton added 23 points and Jamal Murray 20 for the Nuggets, who extended their lead in the Northwest Division to four games over the Thunder.
— The Knicks have strung together back-to-back home wins since dropping 18 straight at Madison Square Garden. Emmanuel Mudiay (MOO’-dee-ay), Mitchell Robinson and the rest of the Knicks’ backups outscored Orlando’s by a whopping 75-7 in a 108-103 victory over the previously-hot Magic. Mudiay finished with 19 points and Robinson added 17, including a free throw that gave New York its first lead at 101-100 with 2:57 left.
NBA-76ers-MARJANOVIC
Sixers lose another center
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers are running out of healthy centers.
Boban Marjanovic (BOH’-bahn mahr-YAH’-noh-vihch) suffered a bone bruise and mild sprain of his right knee in a collision with Pelicans forward Cheick Diallo during Monday’s win at New Orleans. Marjanovic needed crutches to get to the team bus and will be evaluated again within the week.
Marjanovic scored 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting off the bench versus the Pelicans.
The 7-foot-3 Marjanovic has helped fill the void in the middle created by the absence of 7-foot All-Star Joel Embiid (joh-EHL’ ehm-BEED’), who has missed all three of Philadelphia’s games since the All-Star break with a sore left knee.
Marjanovic and Embiid will both sit out Thursday’s game at Oklahoma City.
NHL…

AP source: Rockies, Arenado work out extension
UNDATED (AP) — The Colorado Rockies will keep their top player for a few more years.
The team has announced the signing of All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado (ar-eh-NAH’-doh) to an eight-year contract. A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press the deal is worth $260 million with an average value of $32.5 million. The agreement includes a provision that allows Arenado to opt out after three years and become a free agent.
The 27-year-old Arenado has been an All-Star and a top-10 MVP selection each of the last four seasons, and has won a Gold Glove each of his six big league seasons. He belted 38 home runs in 2018 to lead the National League for the third time in four years.
Arenado is a lifetime 291 hitter with 186 home runs and 616 RBIs.
Elsewhere in baseball:
— The Cardinals and All-Star right-hander Miles Mikolas (MY’-koh-las) have agreed to a contract adding $68 million in guaranteed money from 2020-23. Mikolas was outstanding for the Redbirds last season, going 18-4 with a 2.83 ERA in 30 starts following a three-year stint with the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese Central League. He would have been eligible for free agency after this year’s World Series.
— Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez had a platelet rich plasma injection Monday to stimulate healing in his weak pitching shoulder and likely will not be in the starting rotation at the beginning of the season. Martinez has missed the past week of spring training, and the Redbirds say he won’t throw for two weeks.
— Mets third baseman Todd Frazier injured his left oblique muscle and will return to New York for a cortisone injection. He’s the second Mets infielder to get hurt at spring training after fellow infielder Jed Lowrie.
— Infielder Logan Forsythe has agreed to a minor league contract with the Rangers and will be at major league spring training. Chase d’Arnaud and Christian Lopes are also in camp on minor league deals, but both sidelined with strained oblique muscles.

Cowboys’ Gregory suspended again
UNDATED (AP) — Randy Gregory is in more trouble with the NFL.
The Dallas Cowboys defensive end has been suspended indefinitely for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, the fourth time the troubled player has been banned by the NFL. The suspension comes about seven months after Gregory was reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell following a lengthy process aimed at reviving his career.
Gregory had his best year in 2018, posting career highs with six sacks and 14 games.
In other NFL news:
— The 49ers have placed the franchise tag on kicker Robbie Gould, who will make about $5 million this season. Gould has been the NFL’s most accurate kicker during his two seasons with San Francisco and could have been a target to return to the Bears if he hit the open market. Chicago is planning to release kicker Cody Parkey after he missed a field goal off the left upright and crossbar in the closing seconds of a 16-15 wild-card loss to Philadelphia.
— The Ravens have released Michael Crabtree after one season with the team. Crabtree caught 54 passes for 607 yards and three touchdowns in 2018, but he managed just 11 receptions and one TD over his final seven games after Lamar Jackson became the starting quarterback.
— The NFL’s competition committee discussed the league’s replay system during its annual meeting in Indianapolis but reached no consensus on possible changes. Giants owner John Mara told a handful of reporters he didn’t sense a “lot of support” among committee members for an overhaul to the system. While the sentiment could change between now and next month’s owner’s meetings in Phoenix, Mara is skeptical any significant proposal will be passed.

TRAIL BLAZERS-STUCK IN ELEVATOR
Portland Trail Blazers stuck in elevator going to practice
BOSTON (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers might want to use the stairs after the squad got stuck in an elevator.
They were headed to practice Tuesday at Emerson College in Boston when the elevator stopped between floors. Center Enes Kanter tweeted a video in which team members looked at their phones and talked about “survival mode” as one held a candy bar. They said it was hot in the elevator.
Center Meyers Leonard tweeted video of the tall basketball players climbing out of the elevator about 30 minutes later. No one was hurt.
The college apologized and in a statement said it hopes the team “takes it easy on the Boston Celtics” today.
