MANDAN, N.D. (uj.edu) — Two first-period goals proved to be enough offense for the University of Jamestown hockey team as the Jimmies avenged Friday’s home defeat with a 2-1 victory over the University of Mary Saturday evening.
Jason Richter (JR/Cranbrook, British Columbia) and Garret Browning (JR/Winnipeg, Manitoba) lit the lamp for Jamestown as the score was 2-0 after one. Richter’s goal, assisted by Graham Day, came at the 6:52 mark while Phoenix McElroy-Scott and Jeremy McNeil set up Browning’s goal at 13:19.
The Marauders outshot the Jimmies 24-6 in the second period and were able to cut the lead in half on Marshall Tschida’s goal with 57 seconds left in the period.
Neither team was able to find a goal in the third as the gamed ended in favor of the Jimmies.
UJ goaltender David Anderson (JR/Santa Clarita, Calif.) made 51 saves, including 22 in the third period.
Both teams came up empty on the power play. Jamestown was 0-for-4 and UMary 0-for-6.
The win evened the season series at 2-2, with both team’s wins coming on the road.
Jamestown will take on Minot State next weekend in a best-of-three series. Times/locations will be announced Monday.
