TUCSON, Ariz.  (uj.edu) — The University of Jamestown baseball team concluded its trip to Arizona with a pair of wins Saturday, defeating Concordia-St. Paul 4-2 and Dordt (Iowa) College 13-4.

The Jimmies have now won six straight and are 10-6 on the season.

Matt Meraz (JR/Aurora, CO) singled home Grant Okawa (JR/Mississauga, ON) with the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth in the Jimmies’ 4-2 win over Concordia-St. Paul. Tanner Roundy (SR/Henderson, NV) doubled to score Meraz with an insurance run.

Joe Harris (SO/Recluse, WY) (1-1) was the winning pitcher. He struck out three and allowed just one hit over three innings. Roundy started and went the first six innings, giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

Meraz, Roundy, and Jared Bentley (JR/Washougal, WA) all had two hits for UJ. Chase Hacker (JR/Millcreek, WA) had the Jimmies’ other hit in the game.

An eight-run ninth broke open a one-run game as Jamestown defeated GPAC rival Dordt (Iowa) in a non-conference matchup.

Meraz went 4-for-5 with 4 RBI and a pair of runs to pace the offense. Jaden Yackley (SR/Lynnwood, Wash.) had two hits and drove in two more, while Roundy, Hacker, Okawa, Drake Pilat (SR/Winnipeg, MB, Canada), and Dirk Eymundson (FR/Parkland County, AB, Canada) also recorded hits.

Dru Fitz (JR/Gresham, OR) (1-1) pitched six innings in relief and recorded the win. He struck out eight batters and gave up just one run on two hits.
