BLOOM, N.D. (KFYR) – A 73-year-old Jamestown man faces terrorizing charges after authorities say he fired shots at a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train on Friday.
Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser says the BNSF crew called in a report of shots fired at a moving train near Bloom, just east of Jamestown.
It happened at around 9:00 p.m.
Deputies confronted the suspect, who said he was firing shots into the air, not at the train.
A photo sent from the BNSF crew to deputies showed a bullet hole in the side of the train. When deputies went back to the suspect’s house, there was no answer.
Deputies got a search warrant and arrested the man without incident.
The train crew was not injured.
The Stutsman County inmate roster lists the individual as 73 year old Art Krien.
The suspect is being held at the Stutsman County Jail awaiting formal charges.

Update…
WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Officials say a 38-year-old man who was a passenger in a Honda Civic died when the car collided with parked vehicles in West Fargo.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the crash happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. A 34-year-old man who was driving the car veered into the wrong lane and struck a parked pickup truck and pushed the truck into a parked car.
The passenger 38 year-old Johnny Grey of West Fargo was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver 34 year-old Daniel Dalpozzo of West Fargo was taken to a Fargo hospital. His condition is not known.
The patrol says all three vehicles had extensive damage. The parked vehicles were not occupied at the time of the crash.
CANDO, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota woman who had been reported missing was found deceased in a car that was submerged in a coulee.
The Towner County Sheriff’s Department says it was looking for a 31-year-old Cando woman, who was reported missing around midnight. Her car was found at 7 a.m. Friday, submerged in the ravine about 11 miles west of Cando, just north of state Highway 17.
Her name has not been released.
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) — The former manager of a western Minnesota grain elevator has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for a swindle that cost his employer millions of dollars.
Fifty-six-year-old Jerry Hennessey of Dalton pleaded guilty in February to mail fraud and tax evasion in a 15-year scheme to defraud the Ashby Farmers’ Co-Operative Elevator Co. in Ashby, Minnesota.
Prosecutors say Hennessey used the money to pay for exotic hunting trips, real estate and credit card debt.
The Star Tribune reports Hennessey concealed the payments as expenses for the co-op. He eventually got a line of credit of about $7 million for the co-op, then used that account to cover more than $5 million that prosecutors say he stole from the company.
Hennessey disappeared for two months before turning himself in in December.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Administrators of a city in the North Dakota oil patch say residents should get a break on property taxes in 2020, due in large part to help from the state Legislature.
The Daily News reports that Minot City Manager Tom Barry says the city is receiving more than $6 million from the state in so-called hub city funding, which designates a small percentage of oil and natural gas production money and distribution taxes to Minot, Williston and Dickinson.
That is more than double the total that Minot was allocated in the last session. Without that, Barry says, the city’s financial outlook would “look very different.”
Many Minot residents were upset by a considerable property tax increase last year.
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Three landowners from northwestern South Dakota who sued the federal government for a 2013 prescribed burn that turned into a wildfire have settled their cases.
The Rapid City Journal reports that settlement agreements were filed for a total of $241,000.
The prescribed burn was lit by the U.S. Forest Service on the Dakota Prairie Grasslands in the Lemmon area, near the border of South Dakota and North Dakota. It was meant to cover 210 acres of federally owned land, but it became a wildfire that burned for several days and destroyed pasture land for cattle.
Affected landowners filed more than $50 million worth of administrative claims that were denied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Landowners then filed multiple lawsuits in 2015, which were eventually consolidated into one case.
BURLINGTON, N.D. (AP) — The co-director of Ward County’s emergency management department in North Dakota is under investigation for allegedly using an office credit card for personal expenses.
KXMB-TV reports Christina Weber was placed on leave without pay Friday during a special county commission meeting while the charges against her are investigated. Officials told her that her salary would be put in escrow for possible payment if she’s reinstated.
Weber briefly addressed the county board asking for an explanation but then said she would seek legal counsel when she was asked if she knew what the situation involved.
Weber was appointed to her position in March.

Rebooting World Cup of Hockey to be part of NHL labor talks
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and union chief Don Fehr (feer) are in favor of rebooting the World Cup of Hockey tournament and holding it every four years.
The stumbling block to an agreement revolves around the hot-button topic of the NHL competing at the Winter Olympics after skipping out on South Korea last year.
Fehr prefers to have both the World Cup and Olympics on the calendar. Bettman is on board when it comes to the World Cup but he’s not committing to the NHL returning to the Winter Games.
In world and national news…
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has met with Saudi King Salman and separately with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the escalated crisis in the Persian Gulf.
Pompeo arrived in the Saudi city of Jiddah earlier on Monday in a hastily arranged visit amid mounting tensions between Washington and Tehran as Iran’s navy chief warned Iranian forces wouldn’t hesitate to shoot down more U.S. surveillance drones from their skies.
Pompeo was greeted upon his arrival in Jiddah by new U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia John Abizaid and Saudi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf.
Before departing, Pompeo said he’d be talking to officials in the Persian Gulf as well as Asia and Europe as he sets out to build an international coalition against Iran.
While Pompeo said the U.S. is prepared to negotiate with Iran, he also said new U.S. sanctions against Iran are to be announced Monday.
NEW YORK (AP) — The unwritten rules that have prevented the Democratic presidential contest from devolving into conflict are about to be tested.
Joe Biden has so far fended off the relatively gentle wrath of his rivals. The shortcomings of his most ambitious opponents like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have been largely overshadowed. And the fiery concerns of lesser-known candidates, such as John Delaney and Andrew Yang, have been all but ignored.
That dynamic now changes as Democrats enter the most consequential week of the young 2020 campaign season.
Ahead of a fundraising deadline, the candidates will face each other on the debate stage for this first time. The clash serves as a microcosm for broader questions, one chief among them: Should candidates attack each other or focus on President Donald Trump?
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Violence has flared again in the Indiana city where Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is mayor.
The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit says 27-year-old Brandon Williams of Niles, Michigan, died after a shooting at Kelly’s pub in South Bend. Another 10 people were wounded by gunshots in South Bend early Sunday.
A statement says that five of the 10 wounded remain in the hospital in stable condition. The others were treated and released.
St. Joseph County Sheriff William Redman says that his officers assisted South Bend police in “controlling a crowd of over 100 upset and angry citizens” who came to Memorial Hospital from Kelly’s Pub early Sunday, causing a lockdown at the hospital.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting. No suspect has been apprehended.
Buttigieg later Sunday faced criticism at a town hall meeting from citizens who are angry about the shooting of a black man by a white police officer a week ago.
ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkey’s lira currency has opened higher against the U.S. dollar after a repeat election for mayor in Istanbul ended months of uncertainty with a landmark opposition win in the country’s largest city.
The dollar traded at 5.717 lira Monday, up nearly 2%, hours after opposition candidate Ekrem Imamoglu swept to victory in Istanbul, defeating a candidate backed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and marking the first major change in the city’s administration for 25 years.
Tens of thousands of opposition supporters joined celebrations in a party atmosphere at organized and spontaneous gatherings across Istanbul after the results were announced Sunday.
Imamoglu won the mayoral ballot in March, but a repeat was ordered by the country’s election commission, citing procedural irregularities.
(AP) Nipsey Hussle, the late rapper who was a respected and beloved community activist in South Los Angeles, will be honored at Sunday’s BET Awards with the Humanitarian Award.
The posthumous award will be presented at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.
Hussle, who is also nominated for best hip-hop artist, was shot to death on March 31 outside his South Los Angeles clothing store in what police said was a personal dispute.
Cardi B is the leading nominee at the BET Awards with seven. She is scheduled to perform Sunday, as will Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, Migos, H.E.R., Lizzo, Lil Baby and Meek Mill.
John Legend, DJ Khaled and YG will pay tribute to Hussle with a performance. Actress Regina Hall will host the ceremony.
HONOLULU (AP) — The dramatic rescue of a hiker lost for more than two weeks in a remote Hawaii forest is showing how emerging technology is helping search teams more efficiently scour the wilderness for missing people.
Hundreds of volunteers used a GPS-enabled trail hiking app on their cellphones to track the paths they walked while looking for Amanda Eller.
Search organizers put the GPS data on specialized digital maps to see what areas volunteers had already searched and identify new places for them to look. The technology led them to Eller.
She stayed alive for 17 days last month by eating plants and drinking stream water.
The software is particularly useful when teams are organizing and tracking the work of large numbers of volunteers.
