Raymond Oberlander, 90, of Medina, passed away July 10, 2019 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown. Known affectionately as “Grandpa,” he was born on March 27, 1929 in Napoleon, ND the son of Christian and Lydia (Himmerich) Oberlander. Raymond grew up on a farm in the Napoleon area with his 9 brothers & sisters. In 1949 Ray married Elenora “Delores” Kroll, they had 2 children Vernon & Karen who passed away at birth. Travelling 12 hours through a snowstorm to Bismarck hospital Ronald was born January 22nd, 1952. In 1955 Ray and Delores moved onto their farm near Medina & welcomed son Randy on March 5th, 1958 along with daughter Renae on September 19th, 1960. Ray, Delores & the kids enjoyed many family reunions, as well as birthdays & anniversaries of relatives. Ray & the kids especially enjoyed their mothers home cooked meals of strudels, chicken & dumplings & Kuchen! They played lots of cards & joined family for outings at Salt Lake near Streeter. Ray & Delores farmed until their retirement in the late 70’s. They traveled, visiting relatives, kids & grandkids as much as they could. In his later years Ray & his close friend Mildred Hoffmann enjoyed visiting with neighbors, their trips to Bismarck & Jamestown & dancing polkas and waltzes to the music they grew up with! Ray was proud of his farm of 65 years that he shared with his wife, kids & grandkids! Raymond is preceded in death by his wife Elenora “Delores” (Kroll) Oberlander; children, Renae (Gerald) Champagne, infants Vernon & Karen; parents, Christian & Lydia Oberlander; brothers, Arthur (Elaine) Oberlander, Robert (Linda) Oberlander; sisters, Luella Oberlander, Lucille (Bob) Scott. He is survived by two children, Ron (Linda) Oberlander & Randy (Dianne) Oberlander; eight grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren; friend, Mildred Hoffmann; brother Curtis (Helen) Oberlander; four sisters, Eileen (Adam) Groff, Adeline (Edward) Moser, Francis (Tony) Aberle and Donna (Alfred) Adam; & many nieces & nephews. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, ND, with Deacon Ken Votava officiating. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2019 at the church. Burial: Napoleon Cemetery, Napoleon, ND. Arrangements are in the care of Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.
