Marian Gladys Schlenker Nitschke, 88,  of Jamestown, ND,  died Tues July 16 at Ave Maria Village.
Marian was born May 10, 1931 on the family farm near Jud, ND. She received her 8th Grade certificate from Michelson #3 Township’s one room school. Marian’s parents were John R. & Maria Schlenker. Marian helped on the family farm knowing she always wanted to be a farmer. On November 12, 1950 she married Kenneth L. Nitschke at the Church of God 7th Day, Alfred, ND. They resided on their farm near Jud for 32 years. In 1982 they moved to Jamestown. They continued to farm until Ken’s death in 2008. Over the next years Marian was a resident at The Heritage Center, Edgewood Senior Living and Ave Marie Village. Marian and Ken traveled the US extensively visiting family and friends. Alaska, Hawaii and Europe were their favorites. On the farm Marian enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden and canning her famous dill pickles. Marian was a fabulous cook. Her specialties were german kuchen, stroodles and knoephla. She helped with the School Band Club, Jud Public School PTA and 4H. She was an honoree member of the Kankakee Kultivator’s Garden Club in Kankakee, IL where she shared her love for flowers. She was a member of the Church of God 7th Day, Alfred ND. Marian is survived by her daughter Gayle (David) Fischer, Bourbonnais, IL; two sons Jeffrey (Debbie) and Jonathan (Judy) Nitschke, Jud ND. Her six grandchildren were the joy of her life; Jeremy (Tina), Nathan (Kris), Jared (Sky) Nitschke all of Jud, ND; Sonja (Tyler) Syversen, Edgeley, ND; Chase (Kaci) Fischer, McPherson, KS; Erin (Ben) Nordquist, Jamestown, ND. “GG” was a Great Grandmother of 16 awesome grandchildren; Adam, Jacob, Luke, Olivia, Drew, Ty, Kade, Symphony and Spring Nitschke; Isabella, Lilly and Blaze Syversen; Hadley and Ellie Fischer; Axel and Etta Nordquist. Marian’s surviving brother, sister and brother in law are Harry (Burnette) Schlenker, Jud, ND; Norma Jean (Jim) Pruitt, Jasper AR; and Hugh Butrick, Albuquerque, NM She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; one sister, Lucille (Hugh) Butrick; a brother, Reuben (Ruby) Schlenker; and Floyd in infancy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jamestown Hospital Hospice or donator’s choice. Visitation: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
