The annual event features different weapons that were used in the 1800’s when Fort Seward was an active fort. A big highlight of the day is the firing of a real Gatling gun and Howitzer cannon.
This year it takes place at 3 p.m., there will be a live demonstration of a real Howitzer cannon and Gatling gun that would have been used at the fort in the 1800’s.
The day will also feature history chats on guns of the Indian War Era, children’s games, and living history exhibits. These will have butter making, dutch oven and soap making demonstrations and more.
The community is invited to come and see what life in the 1870’s was like for the men, women and children that called Fort Seward home.
The event is free to the public, but donations made will benefit the Fort as they continue to grow their programs and upkeep the grounds.
Bricks for the memorial walk, and star sponsorship forms will also be available for purchase. All funds raised will be used for future projects at Fort Seward.
There will be a pie auction to follow at 4-p.m.
