Elizabeth Jane (Schauer) Hanson, passed away September 10th, 2019 at Ave Maria, Jamestown, ND. Born in McIntosh County, North Dakota to Edward and Martha (Bertsch) Schauer on February 21st, 1938. Graduated high school in 1955. She met Lyle Hanson at Ellendale College and they were married August 27, 1958.They were blessed with two beautiful children Patricia Ann and Paul Alan. Betty went back to school to finish her degree in education and graduated magna cum laude from Valley City State University in 1974. She taught English and Adult Education at the James River Vocational Center; and was the director of the alternative high school. In 2000, she was awarded North Dakota Adult Education Teacher of the Year.

Betty had a passion for education, enjoyed teaching and loved reading. She cherished coffee with her friends, spending time with her grandkids, and enjoyed quiet summer days at the lake cabin with her family. She loved being in the kitchen and serving others through her baking and cooking. Betty spent many days and hours giving back to the community of Jamestown volunteering at Roosevelt Elementary, PEO, the Red Hats Society, Town Hall, Trinity Lutheran Church, the Germans from Russia group, and Ava Maria Village.

She is survived by husband Lyle of 61 years, daughter Patricia (Daniel) Smith and son Paul (Kristi) Hanson, and grandchildren Benjamin (Danika) Smith, Casandra (Rick) Ortiz, Katlin Smith, and Charles Hanson.

Visitation will be held at Eddy Funeral Home on Friday, September 13th, 2019 from 4-7pm with prayer service at 7pm. Her funeral service will be at 10am Saturday, September 14th, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a future date.
