Lemmon, SD (Valley News Live) The Silver Alert that was issued earlier this week for the missing South Dakota woman has been cancelled.
Authorities say Clara Mae Braun has been located alive.
She was last seen around six O’Clock on Monday September 16 driving north on South Dakota Highway 73 toward the city of Lemmon, SD, which is on the North Dakota – South Dakota state line.
Police sent out the alert because they considered her endangered because she has dementia.
INFORUM reports, that Harding County Sheriff Wyatt Sabo, says she was found Thursday, Sept. 19 around 9:20 a.m. by a farmer south of Mott, N.D., which is roughly 110 miles north from her home in Buffalo.
Sabo says Braun was found lying by her vehicle, which was stuck in a field, and he suspects she had likely been there since shortly after she had last been reported seen, which was at 6:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16.
“She had run out of gas,” said Sabo, who was not only happy for her family but personally happy, as he’s known Braun all his life.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota will use $16.6 million in federal funds and state loans to cover damages from widespread spring flooding.
The North Dakota Emergency Commission, headed by Republican Gov. Doug Burgum, approved the spending Thursday.
Burgum requested federal help this spring in dealing with flooding that damaged homes, public infrastructure, hundreds of roads and thousands of acres of farmland in 19 counties in western, south central and eastern North Dakota.
President Donald Trump approved a disaster declaration for North Dakota in June that provided $14.4 million to help cover the costs.
The Emergency Commission voted to borrow Thursday to borrow an additional $2.2 million from the Bank of North Dakota for the balance.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.
Judge John Thelen went along Wednesday with the state’s sentencing recommendation for Jeffrey Krogstad, citing concerns that the 53-year-old sex offender would reoffend if given the opportunity.
Jurors found Krogstad guilty of gross sexual imposition after a three-day trial in April during which the girl testified while clutching a teddy bear. The Bismarck Tribune says the abuse took place from February until July 2018.
Krogstad refused to cooperate with a mandated presentence investigation, which is routinely used to determine the level of risk a sex offender poses for reoffending.
ROLLA, N.D. (AP) — A man awaiting trial for murder in Rolette County is now facing an additional charge of possessing a weapon in a correctional facility.
According to a criminal complaint, Sheriff Nathan Gustafson says Ronald Wootan was found with “a weapon assembled out of a razor blade and other parts” while he was in the Rolette County Jail. The 50-year-old Wootan was charged this week with the weapons felony.
KFYR-TV says Wootan will stand trial in February for the shooting death of 26-year-old James “Joe” Pochant in July 2018. He’s also accused of firing at a SWAT truck during a standoff.
A judge last month ordered a psychological exam for Wootan who’s scheduled to make an initial appearance on the weapons charge Sept. 23.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Bankers in rural parts of 10 Plains and Western states expect slow growth in the months ahead, but the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China is weighing on the economy.
The Rural Mainstreet survey’s overall index climbed into positive territory at 50.1 in September from August’s 46.5. Any score above 50 suggests a growing economy, while a score below 50 indicates a shrinking economy.
Creighton University economist Ernie Goss, who oversees the survey, says bankers are less confident because of the ongoing trade disputes and the lack of approval for a new North American trade agreement.
The confidence index remained low at 42.9 in September — up slightly from August’s 42.
Bankers from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming were surveyed.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — After weathering ups and downs in wetland conditions for the last few years, duck hunters in North Dakota and South Dakota are seeing positive trends in the popular waterfowl states.
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s annual fall survey shows that duck hunting wetlands have increased about 65% statewide from a year ago. Officials cite record conditions in the south central and southeastern parts of the state.
Tom Moorman, chief scientist for Ducks Unlimited, says eastern North Dakota and South Dakota saw increases in both ponds and breeding waterfowl. He says there are dry conditions in Canada that typically drive some species into the Dakotas.
The regular duck hunting season opens Saturday in North Dakota. In South Dakota, it opens on Sept. 28 in some areas and Oct. 12 in others.

UNDATED (AP) _ Minnesota’s 8-5 win over the Royals allowed the Twins to maintain their four-game lead over Cleveland in the AL Central. Nelson Cruz hit two of Minnesota’s four home runs and matched his season high with five RBIs. Miguel Sanó (sah-NOH’) homered and hit the tiebreaking RBI double in the fifth following the ejection of Royals starter Mike Montgomery, who started that inning by giving up a home run to Mitch Garver.
_ The Indians were 7-0 winners over the Tigers behind Mike Clevinger, who blanked Detroit despite allowing seven hits over six innings. Franmil (FRAHN’-meel) Reyes belted a two-run homer and Roberto Perez added a two-run single in Cleveland’s 17th consecutive win over the Tigers. Francisco Lindor (lihn-DOHR’) had three hits and scored twice for the Indians, who pulled into a tie with Tampa Bay for the second AL wild card with nine games remaining.
The St. Louis Cardinals have maintained their three-game lead in the NL Central while also helping out the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cardinals coughed up a 4-1 lead in the ninth inning before Matt Carpenter smacked a home run in the 10th to give the Redbirds a 5-4 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Carpenter entered the game in the sixth inning and struck out in his previous at-bat before allowing St. Louis to avoid an agonizing loss.
The home run came off Craig Kimbrel, who was activated from the injured list before the game.
Harrison Bader had two hits and two RBIs for the Cardinals, who now sit four games in front of the Cubs with nine to play.
Carlos Martinez was charged with three runs in 1/3 of an inning. He entered the game after Jack Flaherty struck out eight and limited Chicago to three hits over eight innings.
Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo homered in his second at-bat of the night. Rizzo hadn’t played since Sunday due to a sprained ankle and was a surprise addition to the lineup.
The outcome allowed the Brewers to move one game ahead of Chicago for the second NL wild card.
Five Milwaukee pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts in a 5-1 win over the Padres. Jordan Lyles struck out nine while holding San Diego to a run and three hits, but he came one out short of being eligible for the win.
Lorenzo Cain hit a solo homer in the fourth before immediately leaving the game due to ankle soreness. Trent Grisham replaced Cain and hit a “Little League” home run, lining a double and moving to third on the throw before scoring on an errant toss to the plate.
Elsewhere around major league diamonds:
_ The Yankees are AL East champions for the first time in seven years following a 9-1 pounding of the Angels. DJ LeMahieu (leh-MAY’-hyoo) belted a three-run homer and Brett Gardner provided a solo shot and a two-run double in New York’s 100th win. Cameron Maybin and Clint Frazier added eighth-inning homers after Masahiro Tanaka (mah-sah-HEE’-roh tah-NAH’-kah) limited Los Angeles to a Kole Calhoun home run and just three other hits over seven frames.
_ Ronald Acuna (ah-KOON’-yah) Jr. belted his 40th home run and the Atlanta Braves clinched at least a tie for the NL East title by downing the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-4. Mel Ott is the only player younger than the 21-year-old Acuna to hit 40 home runs in a season, doing it at age 20 for the 1940 Giants. Freddie Freeman had two RBIs and Mike Soroka (sah-ROH’-kah) allowed two runs over five innings to move to 13-4.
_ Shed Long had three hits, drove in a pair and scored the go-ahead run in the 11th to lead the Mariners to a 6-5 victory and a three-game sweep of the Pirates. Long opened the 11th by reaching base on an error and came around to score on a 4-3-6-2 rundown that concluded an inning-ending double play.
_ Eduardo Rodriguez is 18-6 after striking out 10 over six innings of the Red Sox’s 5-4 victory against the Giants. Xander Bogaerts (BOH’-gahrts) supplied a pair of RBI singles to back Rodriguez, who limited San Francisco to one earned run and four hits to help Boston avoid a three-game sweep.
_ Cavan Biggio (KAV’-an BEE’-zhee-oh) homered and had three RBIs to help the Blue Jays double up the Orioles, 8-4. Lourdes Gurriel (gur-ee-EHL’) Jr. also went deep for Toronto, which scored 27 runs in its first sweep at Camden Yards since July 2010.
MLB-YANKEES-GERMÁN
Yankees’ Germán put on leave
UNDATED (AP) — Yankees star pitcher Domingo Germán (hehr-MAHN’) has been placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball because of domestic violence.
MLB did not give details in its statement Thursday, but said the leave “may last up to seven days, barring an extension.” MLB is investigating and says it will have no further comment.
The Yankees say in a statement they “fully support all measures being undertaken” by the commissioner and stressed that “domestic violence has no place in our society and cannot be tolerated.” The team adds that MLB will have its “complete cooperation.”
Germán has given the Yankees’ rotation a big lift this year, going 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA.
Also in the Bronx, Yankees reliever Dellin Betances (beh-TAN’-sehs) has been told surgery is not recommended for the partially torn Achilles tendon that ended his season after eight pitches.
Betances hurt his left foot when he hopped on the mound Sunday at Toronto after striking out Brandon Drury, his second and final batter. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the right-hander will be in a walking boot for another four weeks before he is re-evaluated.
Also in the majors:
_ A person familiar with the negotiations says Marlins manager Don Mattingly has agreed to a contract extension and will return for a fifth season in 2020. Mattingly’s contract was to expire after this season. The rebuilding ballclub has the worst record in the National League at 53-99 this season, and they’re set to exceed 100 losses for the first time since 1998.

CHINA, Texas (AP) — The slow-churning remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda that flooded parts of Texas left at least two people dead and rescue crews with boats scrambling to reach stranded drivers and families trapped in homes.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said that by Thursday night, floodwaters had started receding in most of the Houston area. Police Chief Art Acevedo said law enforcement officers planned to work well into the night to clear freeways of vehicles stalled and abandoned because of flooding.
Officials in Harris County, which includes Houston, said there had been a combination of at least 1,700 high-water rescues and evacuations to get people to shelter during a relentless downpour that drew comparisons to Hurricane Harvey two years ago.
The storm also flooded parts of southwestern Louisiana.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has plunged into a showdown with Congress over access to a whistleblower’s reported complaint about incidents including a private conversation between President Donald Trump and a foreign leader.
The government’s intelligence watchdog says the blocked complaint is “serious” and “urgent.”
The administration is keeping Congress from even learning what exactly the whistleblower is alleging, but the intelligence community’s inspector general says the matter involves the “most significant” responsibilities of intelligence leadership. One report said it involved a promise Trump made in a phone call to a foreign leader. A lawmaker said the complaint was “based on a series of events.”
The inspector general appeared before the House intelligence committee behind closed doors Thursday but declined, under administration orders, to reveal the substance of the complaint.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon will present a broad range of military options to President Donald Trump on Friday as he considers how to respond to what administration officials say was an unprecedented Iranian attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil industry.
In a White House meeting, the president will be presented with a list of potential airstrike targets inside Iran, among other possible responses, and he also likely will be warned that military action against the Islamic Republic could escalate into war.
The national security meeting will likely be the first opportunity for a decision on how the U.S. should respond to the attack. Any decision may depend on what kind of evidence the U.S. and Saudi investigators are able to provide proving that the cruise missile and drone strike was launched by Iran.

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — More than 30 heads of state and government have signed an appeal for greater action to fight climate change circulated by Austrian president Alexander Van der Bellen ahead of next week’s conference on global warming at the United Nations.
The Initiative for more Climate Ambition declares climate change the “key challenge of our time,” adding that “our generation is the first to experience the rapid increase in temperatures around the globe and probably the last with the opportunity to effectively combat an impending global climate crisis.”
It says countries need to act “jointly, decisively and swiftly.”
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s office said Friday he was among the signatories, others of whom included French President Emmanuel Macron, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
KFAR SABA, Israel (AP) — Religion played a central role in this week’s deadlocked election in Israel’s secular heartland.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s tight alliance with the ultra-Orthodox may have contributed to his second-place finish.
For many, a vote for the opposition was driven by a desire to keep rabbis out of their schools, businesses and love lives.
Firebrand politician Avigdor Lieberman has now positioned himself as the power broker by making these matters his signature cause and defecting from Netanyahu’s camp over what he called its capitulation to the ultra-Orthodox. He now insists on a secular unity government, and neither Netanyahu nor his rival Benny Gantz seem capable of forming a coalition government without him.
BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq is coming under pressure as the U.S. and Israel increase efforts to contain Iran and its influence in the region.
Pro-Iranian militias across Lebanon, Syria and Iraq are being pounded with economic sanctions and precision strikes hitting their bases and infrastructure, putting the governments that host them in the crosshairs of an escalating confrontation.
Nowhere is that being felt more than in Iraq, where Shiite forces linked to Iran pose a growing challenge to government authority.
Sites belonging to Iran-backed Shiite militias in Iraq have been hit by a spate of airstrikes blamed on Israel.
The mounting pressure has brought divisions within Iraq’s pro-Iranian factions into the open, threatening to upend a fragile government coalition and a rare reprieve from the violence that has plagued the country for years.
