OMAHA, Neb. (KCSi-T.V. News May 3, 2013 — Snowmelt inflow is occurring at Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs, and pool elevations have been increasing as expected. Large river flows continue upstream of the reservoirs and high inflows are expected to continue for the next few weeks. Combined releases from the reservoirs are currently expected to stay below 1200 cubic feet per second; significant additional rainfall or snow may necessitate higher release levels.

Pipestem Reservoir is currently at pool elevation 1460.1 feet which results in 16.6 percent of the flood pool occupied. Inflows are 2200 cfs and have begun to drop in the last couple of days. Jamestown Reservoir is currently at pool elevation 1431.8 feet which results in 1percent of the flood pool occupied. Inflows are currently 360 cfs and rising with flows at the James River at Grace City gage near 3000 cfs.

Currently releases are at 100 cfs at Pipestem Reservoir and 450 cfs at Jamestown Reservoir resulting in a combined release of 550 cfs. Releases will be held steady over the weekend. In the following week, releases will be increased to a combined 750 to 1200 cfs depending on the inflow volume into the reservoirs. Releases will be stepped up by approximately 100 to 200 cfs per day as necessary. During the rest of May, emphasis will be placed on evacuating Jamestown Reservoir flood storage near the June 1 target date. Pipestem Reservoir flood storage will be primarily evacuated in June, July and August.

Residents along the James River downstream from Jamestown should monitor flood forecasts by the National Weather Service and make preparations as necessary to minimize damages from high river levels.  Flood forecasts on the James River in North Dakota and South Dakota are available on the Missouri Basin River Forecasting Center website at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mbrfc/.

A rapid deployable gage was installed on the James River near Adrian to provide river stage readings between Jamestown and Lamoure. Data from this gage and permanent gages on the James River in North Dakota and South Dakota is available on the U.S. Geological Survey website at http://nd.water.usgs.gov/floodinfo/james.html.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) Superintendent Robert Toso says, he expects upwards of 200 people to attend the Jamestown Public School Board meeting this (Monday) evening (May 6, 2013) at 5:15 p.m.

The meeting has been moved to the Jamestown Middle School Gym.

He said one of the first items on the agenda is to rescind the recent school board vote that denied hiring Jeff Nold, to a teaching position.

Members of the audience are also expected to address the issue.

At the April 25, 2013 meeting the school board, on a 5-3 vote, turned down hiring Jamestown High School Principal Bill Nold’s son, Jeff for a business teacher position, after a contentious discussion.

Jeff Nold is the son of Bill Nold, principal of Jamestown High School — where the position of business teacher now remains vacant.

He said following rescinding the April 25th vote, school board is able to discuss again, hiring Jeff Nold, and then vote again on whether or not he should be hired.

At the April 25ht meeting, voting in favor of hiring Jeff Nold were board members, Diane Hanson, Gail Martin and Greg Allen.

Opposed were board members Roger Haut, Roy Musland, Roger Haut, Shelly Jystad and Terry Anderson.

Board member Heidi Larson was not present during the vote.

Since then, a group of community members has gathered 450 signatures on a petition asking the School Board to reconsider.

Jamestown, ND, May 3, 2013—Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) is now offering services for direct access testing in the JRMC Laboratory. This new service was developed to assist people in monitoring ongoing health risks or to access potential health risks.

The tests that are performed through direct access testing may identify certain discrete health indicators and are in no way a substitute for a regular and thorough physical exam performed by a physician. Patients may order certain laboratory tests (mostly screening type tests) without the order of a physician. This offers patients tests at a significantly reduced rate and the convenience of having testing without a scheduled appointment during specified direct access testing hours.

Jamestown Regional Nedical Center, Laboratory Manager, Mary Bowder says, “JRMC is excited to offer this new service to the community. Our hope is to provide patients with the information that they need to stay on top of their health.”

Direct access testing includes the following tests: blood type, HBA1C, Influenza A and B, Lipid panel 12 – 14 hour fast (cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL), pregnancy tests and rapid strep test. Patients must be 18 years of age or older to order direct access testing. Tests may be ordered directly through admissions at JRMC where they will complete an order form and a self-addressed envelope. Payment is required at the point of completing the order.

Lab hours for direct access testing is Monday through Sunday 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Patients will receive the tests report(s) along with a brief interpretation of the tests performed. Lab personnel may give the report directly to the patient or mail the report in a self-addressed envelope provided by the patient.

For more information on direct access testing call (701) 952-4775 or go to www.jrmcnd.com.

For more information on services at JRMC, visit www.jrmcnd.com or call 701-952-1050.
