Martha Schlafman, 88, of Jamestown, ND, passed Thursday morning, October 17, 2019 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.Martha (Neumiller) Schlafman was born on May 15, 1931, in McLean County, North Dakota, the daughter of Christ and Katherine Neumiller. She grew up on the family farm south of Mercer, North Dakota. After finding the love of her life, Reuben Schlafman, they were married on October 27, 1948 in Billings, MT.In 1968, they moved to Jamestown for Reuben’s work and Martha started working at Seekins Shoe Store. After Reuben retired, Martha thought she would also in 1996. This gave them time to enjoy their hobbies. Martha liked nothing better than taking the grandchildren camping. Many of their siblings would join them with campers in tow, sometimes gone for several weeks. Fishing was always the main event; nobody was prouder than her of a good catch. She was a woman of various interests, like Dart League, Pool League, Bowling, Casino trips with her sisters-in-law, and last but not least, her love of the game Bingo. Her Bingo friends will certainly miss her kindness and humor. Each of these activities gave Martha the opportunity to meet and enjoy many new friends and no one more special than Karlene and Bob Serfoss, Martha’s dear neighbors, and close friends. She cherished them all.She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, as well as the VFW Auxiliary.Martha is survived by two sons, Myron (Cel) Schlafman and Curt Schlafman (special friend, Sandy Robinson), all of Jamestown; 7 grandchildren; great grandchildren; brother, Harold Neumiller, Bismarck, ND; and sister-in-law, Alice Neumiller, Turtle Lake, ND.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers and four sisters.
