Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Barnes County Commission voted 3-2 to move the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center to the Barnes County Courthouse basement.

County Commissioners John Froehlich and Phil Leitner voted against the motion.

County Commissioners Eldred Knutson, Cynthia Schwehr and Rodger Berntson have concerns of a flood threat to the present location, stemming from the 2009 & 2011 flood events in Valley City.

The current contract with the city expires on July 16, 2013.

Barnes county plans to ask the city to lease the space monthly after Stutsman County Emergency Manager, Jerry Berquist said that it could take 6-8 months to move the equipment.

Barnes county is in the process of entering into a joint agreement with Stutsman and Richland counties to share services.

Barnes County is working with vendors to replace the older dispatch center equipment.
