Jamestown  (CSi)   A special meeting will be held with townships officers on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Stutsman County Extension Office, 502 10th Ave SE, Jamestown, ND to discuss damage assessments for township roads.

Due to the recent disaster declaration, the county and townships need to conduct a damage assessment for their roads by November 8, 2019. Due to FEMA increasing requirements for damage assessments, the Stutsman County Commission is contracting with Interstate Engineering to complete an assessment for county roads.

Since accuracy and time is of the essence, the Commission is willing to include township roads as part of their contract. Townships wanting to participate would be charged a pro rata share of the contract based on the number of roads assessed. That charge would be billed to the township’s road balance with the Stutsman County Road Department.

On Monday, any townships wanting to participate in the County contract should bring a copy of their township road map indicating areas needing assessment.

Townships may complete their own assessments or contract with an entity of their choice; however, the assessments need to be completed by November 8, 2019.

Please contact the Stutsman County Auditor’s Office at (701) 252-9035 with  any questions.

Omaha  (USACE) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Omaha District and The Bureau of Reclamation are notifying the public of the expected hazardous and constantly unstable winter ice condition on Pipestem Reservoir and Jamestown Reservoir in the coming winter months.

Changing water elevations and increased water releases throughout the winter will create dangerous areas of thin ice creating unsafe conditions for individuals recreating on Pipestem Reservoir and Jamestown Reservoir. These fluctuating water elevations change ice conditions without prior warning.

Due to unseasonably wet conditions, water releases will be made from both the Pipestem Dam and Jamestown Dam throughout the winter. Once the Reservoirs have iced-over, the ongoing water releases from the dams will create a fluctuation in Reservoir levels. Fluctuating water levels beneath the ice on the Reservoirs will leave large voids between the ice and the water surface creating extremely dangerous ice conditions.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Senate Democrats have joined the call for a state senator to resign his leadership position in the wake of his Facebook posts targeting a Muslim congresswoman from Minnesota.

The Bismarck Tribune reported that Democratic senators wrote a letter Thursday to Sen. Oley Larsen, a Minot Republican, asking that he relinquish his position as president pro tempore. Their letter comes a day after Larsen sent an email to his fellow senators, asking to “gauge each of your stance” on his leadership role.

“I personally do not feel that this action warrants resignation of my Pro Tempore status,” he wrote. “I ask each of you to provide me your opinion on this issue to assist me in deciding my next action.”

Larsen this week posted a long-debunked photo that purports to show Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar holding a weapon at an al-Qaida training camp. The image is an Associated Press photo showing a female Somali army recruit at a Mogadishu military training campus in 1978, four years before Omar was born in 1982.

Senate Majority Leader Rich Wardner and GOP Gov. Doug Burgum have called on Larsen to apologize and to relinquish his position as president pro tempore, a post in which he presides over sessions when the lieutenant governor is absent.

Larsen, who has not responded to requests for comment from the AP, wrote that he won’t resign from “any of my positions” in the Legislature. He wrote on Facebook that he was “sorry for spreading fake news” and was “willing to own my role in spreading misinformation” before he lobbed fresh criticism at Omar. He made it clear he would not apologize to Omar.

In their letter, members of the Senate Democratic-NPL Caucus wrote: “Your words and actions have negatively and unnecessarily drawn attention to you, our chamber, and this state.” They added his actions “were unbecoming of both positions to which you were elected.”

Republicans hold 37 seats in the Senate to the Democrats 10.

Omar is a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Somalia and is one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress.

WILLOW CITY, N.D. (AP) — Wildlife officials say a state game warden escaped serious injuries when he was attacked by a bull moose in North Dakota.

Game & Fish Department Chief Game Warden Robert Timian tells KFGO radio that District Game Warden Jonathan Toftland was in the Willow City area Wednesday to investigate a report of an injured or sick bull moose. As Toftland approached the animal, it stood up and charged him, knocking him to the ground. The moose was killed.

Timian says the outcome could have been “far worse” and credits help from others who were in the area for helping Toftland. The game warden was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released.

Timian says investigators are trying to determine if the bull moose was sick.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s company is exploring the sale of its Washington hotel, which has been at the center of three years’ of ethics complaints and lawsuits accusing him of trying to profit off the presidency.

The Trump Organization said in a statement Friday that it will consider offers to buy it out of a 100-year lease of the building partly because “people are objecting to us making so much money on the hotel.”

The Trump International Hotel has been a magnet for lobbyists and diplomats looking to curry favor with the Trump administration.

In Trump’s latest financial disclosure, the opulent hotel built from the Old Post Office building just steps from the White House generated nearly $41 million, up less than half a million from last year.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House impeachment investigators are issuing subpoenas to three more Trump administration officials.

They’re demanding that the three testify in their probe of President Donald Trump’s efforts to pressure Ukrainian leaders to seek damaging information about Democratic political opponents.

The chairs of the three investigating House committees have issued subpoenas to two officials of the White House Office of Management and Budget. They are acting director Russell Vought and Michael Duffey, who’s associate director for national security programs.

They’ve also subpoenaed State Department counselor T. Ulrich Brechbuhl.

Investigators asked all three earlier this month to testify, but none have appeared.

Investigators want to know why nearly $400 million in military aid to Ukraine was delayed. Others have alleged Trump was demanding investigations in exchange for the assistance.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Pentagon chief Mark Esper says the United States will leave more American troops and armored vehicles in eastern Syria to help prevent Islamic State militants from gaining access to oil fields controlled by U.S.-allied Syrian Kurds.

A U.S. official says the deployment will likely include tanks.

Esper confirms that U.S. is going to send in an armored force to the oil region. He’s refusing to provide details or the number of troops.

His comments at a news conference at NATO headquarters in Brussels reflect another change in what’s been a rapidly shifting U.S. stance on American forces in Syria.

Just last week, President Donald Trump was insisting that all 1,000 forces would leave the country
