The accident happened on Thursday, December, 5  at approximately 10:12- a.m. near the 1100 block of 5 Ave SE, in an adjacent parking lot.

Major Justin Blinsky reports, the semi involved in the incident appears to be a white Volvo semi pulling a white enclosed refrigerated type trailer. There also appears to be a company name on both truck doors and possibly on the lower-front corners of the trailer.

The semi’s trailer struck a power pole and likely has damage to the right side of the trailer, located near the front axle. The semi left the scene of the accident without notifying Law Enforcement. The power pole was destroyed in the incident.

Anyone with information regarding the owner and/or driver of the semi involved in the accident is asked to contact the Jamestown Police Department at 701-252-1000.  This incident remains under investigation.

Jamestown  (CSi)  1883 Stutsman County Courthouse, Site Supervisor, Steven Reidburn says, the community will have two opportunities to visit the Christmas Open House, on December  8, and 15, from 1-p.m., to 4-p.m., each day.

On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Steve said, 17 Christmas trees have been provided courtesy of sponsors, and decorated by volunteers, adding volunteers have worked about 100 hours on the project in November this year.  He added that each tree will have a tag indicating the name of the sponsor.

He added that trees will have a theme and visitors can vote on their favorite, and pay $1 per ballot, with proceeds going to the  1883 Stutsman County Courthouse supporting future programming and planning.

New this year is Santa’s Café, and workshop, at the main hallway.

Steve also shared progress regarding the new exhibit which is expected to be open on Memorial Day 2020 with a dedication and Open House.

At a recent Jamestown Tourism, Grant/Executive Board meeting, the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse – Citizenship Exhibit was represented by Robert Hanna, State Historical Society, Site Manager, from Bismarck.

He requested $26,795 for the Courthouse Citizenship Exhibit, to help make the 1883 Courthouse the first museum in the United States specifically addressing the exercise of citizenship.  Specified rooms in the courthouse will contain various aspects of citizenship, along with artifacts of such items as office equipment and other historic artifacts representing the time period  1880-1950.  Each courthouse room will have artifacts, many will be interactive for visitors, to have a hands-on experience.

The Tourism Board has approved, $24,115.  Steve Reidburn pointed out that the additional funding plus funds from the State Historical Society will allow all rooms to have exhibits available for the opening, rather than just one room at a time

He says schools will be able to utilize the courthouse for future classes and lessons. He says there will also be an exhibit up during the open house with artwork based on women’s suffrage, in cooperation with University of Jamestown students, to be set up in the Jurors Room.

Visit the 1883 Stutsman County Historic Courthouse Facebook page.

He added that the 1883 Courthouse has the Escape Room open during the winter months.

Those wishing to participate should make reservations no more than two weeks ahead of the requested date.

Jamestown  (CSi)  The Jamestown Community Christmas Tree, is decorated, and is in a different location this year.

The live tree in front of the Jamestown City Fire Hall, was selected, to save the city costs of hauling a donated tree to the front of the Jamestown Civic Center, which has been the location the past few years.  The Jamestown City Fire Department decorated the tree, and a celebration was typically held for the tree lighting.

Last year, the tree tumbled over onto  the railings on the west side exterior of the Civic Center, causing expensive damages, and doubled the costs of replacing the tree, with a standby tree.

Prior to that location, for several years the large tree in front of what was then Jamestown Hospital was decorated each year, until, the front of the building was expanded and the tree was taken down in that space.

The community is invited to drive by the City Fire Hall, and see this year’s Jamestown Community Christmas Tree.

Also the Hansen Arts Park in Downtown Jamestown has decorated Christmas Trees and other areas of the park, courtesy of service clubs and others who have volunteered to put the location and the community in the Christmas spirit.

Jamestown (Chamber) Members of the chamber Young Professionals of Jamestown and the Chamber Ambassadors recently presented the Business of the Month Award to Quality Title, Inc. for their outstanding customer service and continued commitment to the community.

The nomination stated, “Quality Title is all about customer service. The ladies here make sure their clients are taken care of and are 1st priority. They are always organized and do the best they possible can to make sure the closings stay on track. One particular case I know of that I really believe they should be recognized for is when the sellers couldn’t make the closing and the closest partner was 15 miles out of town. Beth drove all the way out to the shop to get the sellers signatures and was still able to have the closing on time for the buyers. This was a job well done by Quality Title to ensure the closing still happened and everyone was happy!”

The Young Professionals of Jamestown honor businesses that provide superior customer service, exhibit community spirit and provide a positive economic impact to the community.  This award provides recognition throughout the month with a plaque and a recognition banner for the month. Monthly award winners will be considered for the Business of the Year to be awarded at the Chamber’s Annual Banquet in January of 2020.  Business of the Month award nomination forms are available at the Chamber office and online at www.jamestownchamber.com .  Call 701-252-4830 for more information.

Steelers’ Connor to sit again

UNDATED (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Connor will miss a third straight game as the team tries to bolster their playoff hopes.

Conner took some reps with the scout team on Thursday but declared himself out for Sunday’s game against Arizona due to his aching right shoulder. He initially hurt the shoulder in the final minutes of a victory over Miami on Oct. 28 and has played part of just one game since.

Connor has rushed for 390 yards and four touchdowns on 102 carries this season, including 145 yards in his last full game.

The 7-5 Steelers currently are battling the Titans for the second and final AFC wild-card berth.

Mayfield’s bruised throwing hand remains wrapped, but he zipped passes to Cleveland’s running backs and tight ends during the early portion of the workout open to media members.

NBA…

Rockets win sloppy game against Raptors

UNDATED (AP) — The Toronto Raptors were able to keep James Harden in check on Thursday while holding Russell Westbrook to 7-for-27 shooting. In world and national news…

WASHINGTON (AP) — Friday’s November jobs report will provide insight into whether steady hiring remains a source of strength for the U.S. economy even as the Trump administration’s trade conflicts have heightened uncertainties for employers. Economists have forecast that the government will report that employers remained confident enough to add a solid 187,000 jobs. The unemployment rate is expected to remain 3.6%, near a half-century low.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says House Democrats will draft articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. That’s a crucial step toward a vote of the full House. The articles are likely to mostly encompass Democrats’ findings on Trump’s dealings with Ukraine. They could charge Trump with abuse of office, bribery and obstruction. This is the fourth time in history Congress has moved to impeach a president.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bernie Sanders is promising to invest $150 billion to bring high-speed internet to “every household in America” while breaking up and better regulating monopolies he says currently limit access to drive up their profits. The Vermont senator and Democratic presidential candidate unveiled a plan Friday to provide that funding in infrastructure grants and technical assistance to states and municipalities through climate initiatives from the Green New Deal. He also says he’d require all internet service providers to offer a “Basic Internet Plan” providing “quality broadband speeds at an affordable price.”

(AP)  China’s finance ministry says Beijing is waiving tariff hikes on U.S. soybeans and pork while the two sides negotiate a trade deal. China promised in September to lift the tariffs but no details were released. The finance ministry said Friday that Beijing is “carrying out the exclusion” but gave no details. Negotiators are working on details of a “Phase 1” agreement announced in October by President Donald Trump. The promise to waive tariffs was one of a series of conciliatory gestures made by both sides that raised hopes for a settlement.
