Omaha  (uj.ed)– Paige Schmidt (SR/Tappen, ND) scored a season-high 17 points to help the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team snap a three-game losing streak as the Jimmies defeated College of Saint Mary 61-47 Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown (7-4 overall, 3-3 Great Plains Athletic Conference) hosts Mayville State (N.D.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Schmidt opened the game by hitting her first two shots from beyond the arc, sparking a 13-0 run to give UJ a 13-3 lead with 4:02 in the first quarter. The Jimmies were 5-of-8 from long distance in the quarter and 8-of-15 overall while holding the Flames to 2-of-14 shooting.

CSM was unable to cut Jamestown’s lead into single digits in the first half, getting as close as 24-14 before a 5-0 Jimmie run made it a 15-point game at the 2:44 mark. Neither team shot the ball particularly well in the second quarter, as UJ was 3-for-12 and the Flames 5-for-14, but Jamestown led 32-20 at the break.

The Jimmies’ lead fell to 42-33 with 2:41 left in the third, but a free throw from Courtney Mosloski (SR/Fairmont, MN) and two more by Kia Tower (FR/Bigfork, MN) pushed the lead back to 45-33 at the start of the fourth.

After CSM made it 50-41 with 6:58 left, back-to-back threes by Schmidt increased the lead to 15 and sealed the victory for Jamestown.

Schmidt finished 5-of-6 on three-point attempts and shot 6-for-7 overall. Mackensi Higlin (JR/Mandan, ND) scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds while Mosloski ended with eight points and seven rebounds. Emma Stoehr (JR/Woodbury, MN) dished out five assists while Higlin, Grace Benz (SO/Steele, ND), and Noelle Josephson (SO/Ramsey, MN) all recorded a pair of steals.

CSM was led by A’leah Davis with 11 points and Lynsey Curran with 10.
