Jamestown  (JRMC) — Jamestown Regional Medical Center has received an award for its high-quality care for stroke patients.

The American Heart Association and North Dakota Stroke Taskforce awarded JRMC the 2019 ND Acute Stroke Ready Hospital Quality Excellence Award. This award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

JRMC earned the award by reporting data through the Get With The Guidelines registry to the ND Stroke Program and demonstrating care excellence from January to December of 2018.

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and is a leading cause of adult disability in the United States. On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds and nearly 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year. Each year, about 795,000 persons experience stroke; about 690,000 are new acute ischemic strokes (AIS) and about 140,000 deaths can be attributed to stroke per year.
