Update…
Jamestown (NDHP) On January 21, shortly after 7 pm, Gregory Anderson, 63, Little Falls, MN, was driving a 2004 Peterbilt loaded with cattle from a Jamestown feedlot to Aberdeen. Shortly after beginning the trip, approximately 2.5 miles east of Jamestown on Old Highway 10, Anderson suffered a sudden medical condition. The condition caused him to drift off the highway and into a field. A short time later, two motorists approached the truck, found the driver unconscious and called 911. A Stutsman County Deputy, NDHP Troopers, and Jamestown Ambulance responders arrived minutes later. Anderson was transported to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center where he was declared deceased. There was no damage to the truck or load. The incident remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Bismarck (CSi) The North Dakota Aviation Hall of Fame committee announces that Allen Sauter has been selected for induction into the state’s Aviation Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place on the evening of March 3rd, at the Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium banquet in Minot, ND. Allen Sauter will join the prestigious aviation hall of fame group that currently includes 44 other individuals who have all had a significant impact to the growth, development, and promotion of aviation in North Dakota. For more information on the North Dakota Aviation Hall of Fame, visit https://ndacaero.com/hall-of-fame.
Allen Sauter was born on October 2nd, 1941 and was raised in Harvey, North Dakota. Allen’s love for aviation started as a child on his family farm where he worked as a flagger for a local aerial applicator. On Christmas Day in 1957, he soloed in a 1946 J-3 Cub on skis at the young age of 16, which began an aviation career that currently spans seven decades.
Allen joined the US Army in 1958 to become a pilot. Once he discovered that he was too young to begin flight training, he decided to attend helicopter maintenance school. Allen excelled in his training and by the end of his enlistment he obtained all FAA requirements for his Airframe & Powerplant Certificate. In addition, he flew all of the aircraft in the Army base flying squadron, including the L-17, L-18, L-19, L-21 and L-26.
Allen returned home in 1962 to North Dakota and after earning his Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor Certificate, he began work as a commercial pilot for Combs Airways and Red Baron Lines. During this time, he flew passengers and cargo throughout North Dakota and other Midwest states. He was also active in the Civil Air Patrol serving as a Captain and Flight Instructor.
Throughout most of the 1970’s, Allen accrued additional qualifications and certifications. He served as the Chief Flight Instructor for Mid-State Aviation in Bismarck where he wrote the first FAA approved multi-engine curriculum for private, commercial, and flight instructor pilots in the state of North Dakota. Allen also wrote and obtained FAA approval for the new GI Bill flight school in North Dakota.
Allen dedicated his life to raising his family while serving as an FAA Certified Gold Seal Flight Instructor and as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner in North Dakota. Within this position, he trained pilots of all levels including private pilots in Piper Cubs to commercial pilots flying twin-engine jets.
Allen continued his contributions to the aviation industry and to his fellow North Dakotans after completing his career with the FAA. He began his own Bismarck based aircraft pilot service company which employed three pilots. Over a span of 14 years his business flew doctors and nurses from Bismarck to rural communities throughout North Dakota and other Midwest states.
Allen received numerous awards, most notably the Orville and Wilbur Wright Master Pilot Award for 50 years of continuous medical certification with no accidents and no violations of FAA Regulations. As an FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructor, he has provided instruction to over 633 certified pilots throughout his career. Allen has flown 55 aircraft including Cessna Citation Jets and Convair 240 aircraft as well as three helicopter models. He has accumulated over 32,200 hours of flight time throughout his lifetime.
The induction ceremony will take place in Minot at the Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium on Tuesday March 3rd. The social begins at 6 p.m. and the banquet begins at 7 p.m. To learn more about the state’s aviation conference or to purchase tickets for the awards ceremony, visit https://ndacaero.com. BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota regulators have signaled that the state won’t impose conditions beyond those required by the federal government on a proposal to double the capacity of the Dakota Access Pipeline. An attorney for the North Dakota Public Service Commission said requiring additional measures could draw a legal challenge from the Texas-based pipeline’s owner, Energy Transfer. The company wants to double the capacity of the pipeline to as much as 1.1 million barrels daily to meet growing demand for oil from North Dakota. It’s seeking permission for additional pump stations in the Dakotas, Iowa and Illinois.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A judge in North Dakota has dismissed the remaining charge against a South Dakota man who prosecutors alleged was part of the 2016 riot at the Dakota Access pipeline construction site. The misdemeanor charge of engaging in a riot against Lawrence Malcolm Jr. of Sisseton, South Dakota, was dropped at the request of the prosecutor and defense attorney. The Bismarck Tribune reports South Central District Judge Bruce Romanick signed the order Tuesday. Earlier this month the judge dismissed a felony criminal mischief conspiracy charge against Malcolm for lack of probable cause. Malcolm was charged based on DNA from a cigarette butt left at the scene.

METS-ROJAS
Mets make it official, announce Rojas as their new manager
NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets made it official, hiring Luis Rojas as their manager to replace Carlos Beltrán.
New York announced the move Thursday, a week after Beltrán departed without managing a game. Rojas, who had been the Mets quality control coach, was given a multiyear contract. Rojas became New York’s fourth manager in the past 2 1/2 years — and third in four months. He is to be introduced Friday at a Citi Field news conference.
Beltrán was let go last week as part of the fallout from the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal.
The 38-year-old Rojas is the son of former Montreal Expos and San Francisco Giants manager Felipe Alou and the brother of ex-big league outfielder Moises Alou, who spent his last two seasons with the Mets from 2007-08.
In other MLB news:
— The Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom says it’s possible they won’t hire a manager before pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 12 for spring training. Alex Cora was released after MLB identified him as the ringleader in a sign-stealing scheme when he was the bench coach with the Houston Astros in 2017. Investigators are also looking into whether Cora engaged in similar shenanigans after taking over the Red Sox in 2018.
—Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger is expected to miss the start of the regular season and likely needs to undergo core muscle surgery. Damian Lillard scored 47 points one game after a career-high 61 for Portland. He became the first player in franchise history to score 100 over two games. Trevor Ariza scored a season-high 21 in his Portland debut.
Bradley Beal scored 36 points and the weary Washington Wizards, overcoming an overtime loss and early-morning arrival in town, defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 124-112.
The Wizards started slowly after not getting in until around 4 a.m. following an OT defeat in Miami on Wednesday but took over late in the first quarter and pulled away. The Cavaliers have lost six in a row and 11 of 13. Collin Sexton led Cleveland with 29 points.

NHL-BLACK HOCKEY LEAGUE STAMP
Canada stamps honor on pre-NHL all-black hockey league
UNDATED (AP) — Canada is paying tribute to an all-black hockey league that thrived long before the NHL became part of national lore.
The country’s postal service unveiled a commemorative stamp Thursday at the Black Cultural Centre. It honors the Colored Hockey League whose teams in the Maritime provinces competed for the championship between 1895 and the 1930s.
The new stamp features an illustration based on a photograph showing the Halifax Eurekas, the Colored Hockey Champions in 1904. Teams weren’t allowed into local arenas until after the white leagues finished their seasons. That meant the CHL’s seasons typically lasted from late January to early March, when natural ice surfaces became poor.

Previously, college athletes could compromise their eligibility to compete for their schools by accepting some benefits that are provided to potential Olympians.
Under the new legislation, athletes designated elite by the USOC or other organizations such as USA Swimming or USA Track and Field can have travel expenses paid for parents, coaches or trainers.
PGA-FARMERS INSURANCE OPEN
Woods opens with 69 at Torrey North to start new year
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Tiger Woods had his lowest opening round of the year since 2011. It wasn’t enough to be among the leaders Thursday at the Farmers Insurance Open, but it was fine with him.
Coming off his record-tying 82nd victory in his last PGA Tour start three months ago in Japan, Woods handled the par 5s on the easier North Course at Torrey Pines and limited mistakes for a 3-under 69.
Sebastian Cappelen (KAP’-lihn) and Keegan Bradley had the low scores of the opening round, which was not the same as sharing the lead. Rory McIlroy, who played in the group in front of Woods, was among those at 67. Jon Rahm, playing alongside Woods, was in the large group at 68.
Bubba Watson had a 67 on the South, while three other players broke 70 on the South, which hosted the U.S. Open in 2008 and gets another U.S. Open next year.

The open-ended lockdowns are unmatched in size, and their potential for success is uncertain. China’s National Health Commission confirmed 830 cases of the new coronavirus with 25 deaths. The first death has also been confirmed outside the central province of Hubei. The health commission in Hebei, a northern province bordering Beijing, said an 80-year-old man died after returning from a stay in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.
WASHINGTON (AP) — As he heads into the 2020 election, Donald Trump will become the first sitting president to address the March for Life when he takes the stage Friday at the annual anti-abortion gathering in the nation’s capital. The move is Trump’s latest nod to the white evangelical voters who have proven to be among his most loyal backers. And it makes clear that, as he tries to stitch together a winning reelection coalition, Trump is counting on the support of his base of conservative activists to help bring him across the finish line.
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Marijuana shops in Alaska will be among the first nationally where onsite use would be permitted. Alaska’s legal marijuana industry hit the milestone Thursday as regulators approved the first retail stores in the state that will be allowed to have customers smoke or consume marijuana products on site. Chris Lindsey of the Marijuana Policy Project says that while some cities in other states have approved such actions, these are the first state-issued approvals. The Marijuana Control Board approved the applications on 3-2 votes.
MADRID (AP) — Authorities in Spain say the death toll from a storm that devastated the eastern part of the country this week has risen to at least 12. Rescuers were still searching for several missing people on Friday. Emergencies services for the northeastern Catalonia region said late Thursday night that a fourth death caused by storm Gloria in the region had been confirmed. That took the national count to at least 12. Rescuers are looking for three people in the Balearic Islands and for a fishing boat with six on board that went missing off Spain’s southern coast.
BAGHDAD (AP) — Thousands have rallied in Baghdad to demand American troops leave the country, though their numbers fell short of the “million-man” march called for by an influential Shiite cleric amid heightened anti-U.S. sentiment after a U.S. drone strike earlier this month killed a top Iranian general in Iraq. Since mid-morning, large crowds gathered as loudspeakers blasted “No, no America!” at a central square in Baghdad. But by Friday afternoon, the rally had failed to reach the critical numbers called for by the radical cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr. Al-Sadr’s supporters did not engage in altercations with security forces or target the separate, anti-government protests in neighboring Tahrir Square as had been feared.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic House prosecutors have made an expansive argument at President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial that he abused power like no other president in history, swept up by a “completely bogus” theory about Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election. The Democrats say that led Trump to demand that Ukraine investigate his rival Joe Biden — while he withheld crucial military aid as leverage. On Friday, the Democrats will press their final day of arguments before skeptical Republican senators on the other charge against the president, obstruction of Congress. “Right matters,” lead prosecutor Adam Schiff told senators in a late night speech. Trump’s defense team is waiting its turn, which will come Saturday.
