Jamestown 4- Minot State 1

(uj.edu) The University of Jamestown hockey team defeated the Minot State Beavers 4-1 Friday night in Minot, both teams’ first return to action since the Jimmies topped the Beavers in a shootout during Hockey Day North Dakota last weekend.

The Beavers opened up the scoring late in the first period on a goal from Justin Metcalf and led 1-0 after one period of play.

The Jimmies came out pressing in the second period and scored on a great individual effort from Dylan Haney (JR/Brandon, Manitoba), assisted by Allan Pruss (SR/Red Deer, Alberta) and Michael Pruss (SR/Red Deer, Alberta). Later in the period Vladislav Zamzhytski (JR/Minsk, Belarus) notched his first collegiate goal with assists from Carter Johnson (SO/Meeteetse, Wyo.) and Jeremy McNeil (SR/Calgary, Alberta) on a seeing eye point shot at 16:36.

Jamestown’s strong play continued in the third as followed up his own rebound and found the net with an assist from Tyler Chavez-Leech (JR/Red Deer, Alberta) at 8:09. Later in the frame at 10:46, Cole McKechney (SR/Calgary, Alberta) deflected a Jordan Popoff (FR/Calgary, Alberta) point shot into the net to seal a 4-1 victory for the Jimmies.

Tyson Brouwer (SR/Lethbridge, Alberta) continued his solid play, stopping 33 shots.

The 13th-ranked Jimmies extend their season series record to 4-2 against the No. 4 Beavers. Both teams will face off again tomorrow night at 7pm at the John L Wilson Arena.
