Jamestown (CSi)  – Feb. 7, 2020  – Spiritwood Energy Park Association (SEPA) announced Friday that the 2019 lawsuit filed against the organization by North Dakota Soybean Processors (NDSP) has been settled to the satisfaction of both parties and dismissed with prejudice.

“We’re very pleased to have this matter settled,” said Connie Ova, SEPA’s chief executive officer. “With this distraction removed, we can focus our full attention on building North Dakota’s first soy bean processing facility. A local crushing plant will create new jobs here in the Jamestown area and new economic opportunities for North Dakota farmers.”

About Spiritwood Energy Park Association

SEPA’s sole function is to manage the Spiritwood Industrial Park, a 551-acre industrial park located approximately 10 miles east of Jamestown, North Dakota, and just south of Spiritwood, North Dakota.  The park adjoins the Great River Energy heat and power plant and its anchor tenant is Dakota Spirit AgEnergy, a 65 million-gallon-per-year biorefinery that produces ethanol, distillers’ grains and fuel-grade corn oil.

SEPA provides common-use transportation infrastructure, industrial lots, property management and value-added services on a fee-for-service basis to new and expanding businesses of the industrial park.  The association is majority-owned and operated by the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation with Great River Energy being the minority owner. JSDC was organized to develop employment, improve business conditions, and advance the interests of the City of Jamestown and Stutsman County, North Dakota, by implementing and sustaining an organized effort to attract new business and industry, support existing business and industry, and encourage new business starts.

Jamestown  (CSi)  The community is invited to financially support surgery on a two year old Labrador German Sheppard mix dog at the James River Humane Society.

On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 Board Member Jay Nitschke said “Liberty,” has to have a life-threatening tumor removed.  She said a veterinarian in Casselton will perform the surgery, after having studied the surgical procedure, scheduled to be performed on March 12th this year.

Jay said, “Liberty,” was taken from another shelter and was to be euthanized, and was in poor health.

After getting better, he was diagnosed with the tumor.

Those wishing to donate to the expenses for the costly surgery, may send donations to the James River Humane Society at post office box, 636, Jamestown, ND  58401, or stop by the shelter at the I-94 Bloom Exit.

Jay said a fundraiser for the shelter will provide a rose and a cat toy delivered to your home on Valentines Day.  Proceeds from a $13 donation for the “Kiss a Cat,” and “Hug a Dog,” promotion will go toward general shelter operations.  Stop by the shelter with the donation/order, by February 12.

Jay also noted that among the 12 dogs at the shelter, available for adoption are four abandoned puppies, and around 20 cats available for adoption.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation has lost its K-9 agent after just two months on the job. The 2-year-old yellow Labrador named Hex collapsed and died last week in Fargo after helping his handler serve a search warrant. The Bismarck Tribune reports that at a recent checkup a veterinarian found some heart troubles and further tests revealed an inoperable cancerous growth inside his heart wall. Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says Hex was expected to live several more months, but collapsed and died Jan. 31

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s state superintendent says she plans to seek reelection. Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler says she will run for a third four-year term. The superintendent is a nonpartisan official, but Baesler sought and received the Republican Party’s support in 2016 when she was elected with about 75% of the general election vote. Baesler tells the Bismarck Tribune that it’s important the office serves all students in North Dakota “regardless of the parties or affiliation of their parents.” Charles Tuttle is also running for superintendent. Tuttle was an unsuccessful independent candidate for North Dakota’s lone U.S. House seat in 2018.

In world and national news…

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal investigators say wreckage from the helicopter that crashed last month, killing Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others did not show any evidence of outward engine failure. That’s according to a preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board. The helicopter crashed into a hillside outside Los Angeles on Jan. 26. The NTSB is investigating the accident, including any role heavy fog played, and a final report isn’t expected for at least a year. A witness told the NTSB that the helicopter was flying forward and downward through the fog before it crashed into the hill.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kobe Bryant’s widow says there will be a “celebration of life” memorial on Feb. 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to honor her late husband and 13-year-old daughter Gianna. Vanessa Bryant posted a graphic on Instagram Friday morning to announce the event. Her post only said the event will occur at 10 a.m. and there are “details to come.” The arena is where Bryant starred for the Lakers for most of his two-decade career and the date 2/24 corresponds with the No. 24 jersey he wore and the No. 2 worn by Gianna. They and seven others died in a helicopter crash last month.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Democratic Party has extended until Monday a deadline for presidential candidates to request a review of the results of this week’s Iowa presidential caucuses. Originally, the candidates had until midday Friday to request a review. The decision follows the caucus night debacle in collecting votes from caucus sites that led to a dayslong delay in reporting the results and inconsistencies in the numbers. It then took until Thursday for the state party to issue what it said are its complete results. Amid the irregularities, The Associated Press has decided it is unable to declare a winner based on the available information.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — President Donald Trump has announced a new nationwide effort to revitalize underserved cities across America. Trump says the campaign will be called “Opportunity Now.” He made the announcement Friday at an economic summit in Charlotte, North Carolina. But five minutes into the speech, Trump shifted to talking about the impeachment trial and sounding themes from the State of the Union address he delivered earlier this week. Trump said Democrats have a “failed impeachment hoax” that they can put on their resumes. Before leaving Washington, Trump remarked on the Democratic-led effort to remove him from office, saying: “I think there’s a lot of evil on that side.”

ALABNY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says his state will file a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s plan to block New Yorkers from enrolling in “trusted traveler” programs. The lawsuit announced Friday is the latest salvo in an escalating fight over immigration policy between President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders in his home state. Federal officials say they took the step of blocking New Yorkers because of a new state law barring immigrant agents from getting access to state motor vehicle records. The law allows New York residents to apply for driver’s licenses without having to prove they are in the U.S. legally.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Hundreds more people evacuated from the virus zone in China are arriving at military bases across the U.S. All passengers will be quarantined for 14 days and monitored for any signs of illness. Federal officials on Friday didn’t immediately say how many people were on the flights landing in San Diego, San Antonio and Omaha, Nebraska. The planes arrived from the Wuhan region of China, the center of the outbreak of the new coronavirus.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Severe flooding in eastern Oregon has closed Interstate 84 — a major freeway linking Idaho and Oregon. It has forced evacuations in low-lying areas and stranded at least one family on their roof. Snow melt and heavy rain caused the Umatilla River and other tributaries in northeast Oregon to overflow their banks late Thursday. Other parts of the Pacific Northwest are also dealing with flash flooding and landslides. Officials are warning of more flooding and landslides in western Washington state on Friday as the rain keeps falling and rivers continue to rise, but warnings were lifted on some rivers.
