Josephine Stampka, 95, Jamestown, ND Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.

Josephine Lira was born January 17, 1925 on the family north of Fried, ND, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Blaskowski) Lira. She was baptized, received her First Communion and was confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fried, ND. Josephine was raised on the farm and attended the Fried Township School through 8th grade and then attended Jamestown High School. She moved with her family to a farm east of Montpelier, ND, where she helped during the spring and summer months and worked in clothing stores and bakeries during the winter months.

On August 29, 1946, she married Joseph Stampka at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Montpelier, ND with Fr. Hannaker presiding. They settled on a farm east of Fried, ND and later moved to Jametown, ND. Josephine worked in various restaurants and in 1979, began working in the dietary department at the North Dakota State Hospital. In 1992, she retired from the State Hospital as a Supervisor II. Josephine returned to work at the James River Senior Center as a cook. She retired in April of 2008.

Josephine was a member of St. James Basilica and a charter member of the St. James Tabernacle Society. She was an RSVP volunteer for many years. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, game shows and trips to the casino. She liked baking and treating family and friends and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two children; Jerome “Joe” Stampka, Jamestown, ND, Ken Stampka, Jamestown, ND; five grandchildren, Christine (Curt) Kinzler, Jamestown, ND, Joseph Fuchs, Jamestown, ND, Tyri (Rick) Bosche, Jamestown, ND, Jacob Fuchs, Aberdeen, SD, Jessica (Aaron) Dunphy, Grand Forks, ND; four great-grandchildren, Patrick Kinzler, Jamestown, ND, Teagan Bosche, Jamestown, ND, Jillian Dunphy and Collin Dunphy, Grand Forks, ND; two sisters, Rita DeLair, Gladstone, OR, Alice Cumber, West Fargo, ND and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Roman and Joe; three sisters, Leona Froelich, Rose DeLair and Cecelia “Cedy” Malinski; daughter, Alice Fuchs; daughter-in-law, Cindy Stampka; son-in-law, Jake Fuchs; five brothers-in-law, Chester Malinski, Robert Cumber, Ray Froelich, Charles DeLair and Francis DeLair.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 AM, Monday, February 17, 2020 at St. James Basilica with Monsignor Wald officiating.
