FARGO, N.D. (KFGO-AM) — A Fargo mail carrier is credited with helping an elderly woman in a potentially life-threatening situation. Fargo Postmaster Greg Johnson says letter carrier Michael Sorum was out delivering mail in blizzard-like conditions Wednesday when he encountered the disoriented woman standing near a vehicle. Johnson says the woman didn’t know where or who she was. KFGO reports Sorum guided her to a postal vehicle to warm up and called 911. Johnson says Sorum was later concerned that allowing the woman inside his mail truck was generally against regulations, but he says Sorum was quickly assured that he did the right thing.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota artist has scrapped his plan to erect a mural honoring Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on the exterior wall of a Bismarck bakery because the business received boycott threats. Shane Balkowitsch had planned to put a 7-foot-tall mural of Thunberg on the exterior wall of a bakery. Balkowitsch took the photo of the teenage climate activist when she visited the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in October. Balkowitsch tells The Bismarck Tribune he saw the planned mural as a celebration of art, not a dig at oil or coal companies in North Dakota. But after threats of boycotts and possible vandalism, Balkowitsch says he pulled his application with the city.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The U.S. Commercial Service says that excluding oil, North Dakota exported more than $2.2 billion worth of products last year, which is nearly an 11% decrease from 2018. The state’s export decline was led by soybeans and machinery, including farm implements. Soybean exports decreased 55% between 2018 and 2019. The value of machinery dropped from $652 million to $488 million, a 25% decrease. Some exports of crops saw an increase, including the state’s durum, wheat and corn. Canada is the state’s top export destination, followed by Mexico. Australia, Germany, Brazil, Japan, Dominican Republic, Czech Republic, United Kingdom and Russia.

MEN’S COLLEGE T25 BASKETBALL SCHEDULE

Georgia Tech pulls off upset of No. 5 Louisville

UNDATED (AP) — Moses Wright made a huge block at one end, then powered inside for a basket that helped Georgia Tech pull off a 64-58 upset of No. 5 Louisville. The loss snapped the Cardinals’ 10-game winning streak. Louisville lost for the first time since early January with a truly dreadful offensive performance against the Yellow Jackets. The Cardinals never led, hitting just 19 of 56 shots from the field. That included a 3-of-24 brickfest beyond the 3-point arc. Jordan Nwora, the ACC’s leading scorer at 19.5 points per game, was held to a season-low 2 points.

Trailing 53-51 with under 2 minutes to go, the Cardinals took off on a two-on-one fast break that seemed certain to produce the tying basket. David Johnson went up for the apparent lay-in, but Wright came out of nowhere to block the shot.

The officials did a lengthy video review to make sure it wasn’t goaltending, finally awarding the ball to the Yellow Jackets.

At the offensive end, Wright got the ball near the foul line, drove for the hoop and dropped one in to extend Georgia Tech’s lead with 55-51 with just over a minute left. He finished with 12 points.

Louisville had one more chance to force overtime, but Lamarr Kimble stumbled driving into the lane, losing the ball for the last of the Cardinals’ 16 turnovers.

Georgia Tech jumped all over the Cardinals right from the opening tip, racing to a 12-2 lead that prompted Louisville coach Chris Mack to call a timeout just 3 1/2 minutes into the game.
