(Bismarck Tribune)  A northeastern ND weekly newspaper that began publishing in 1896 is going out of business. Walhalla Mountaineer editor and publisher Rodney Huffman, who has been with the paper for 56 years, tells the Bismarck Tribune that he was unable to find a buyer after a more than two-month search.

The 75-year-old Huffman says declining subscriptions and sales and a small pool of local advertisers led to his decision to close. The paper had one other employee, who has been with the paper since 1972. Walhalla is a city of about 950 people along the scenic Pembina Gorge, just south of the Canadian border.
