Jamestown  (CSi)  Another  Jamestown Citizen’s Academy begins in March. The 10-week course provides  members of the community a chance to learn a little more about the day-to-day operations of law enforcement operations.

Academy classes are planned from 6 pm to 9 pm for 10 Thursdays beginning March 26. Each week has a lesson plan and a different instructor from the Jamestown Police Department and other law enforcement and first responder agencies in the area.

Jamestown Police Officer Andrew Staska who is  one of the coordinators of the academy, says, “We want people to have a good understanding of everything we do and why we do it.  The biggest thing is, we want to build connections between us and the community. “The lessons will range from criminal law, traffic law, the use of force, tasers, firearms, special operations teams and crime scene investigation. It is a set curriculum … but we let people ask a lot of questions.”

Applications for the citizen’s academy are being accepted through March 20 and are available at the Jamestown Police Department located in the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center and Jamestown City Hall. The program will accept about 20 individuals.

Applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted with signed consent from a parent or guardian. Anyone attending the academy should be in reasonably good physical condition and will be subject to a background check.
