Anita Schmidt, 99 years, 4 months 16 days, of Medina, ND, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, March 17, 2020 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
Anita was born November 1, 1920, in Flint Township, near Medina, ND, the daughter of A.J. and Theresa (Hartzfeldt) Andres. She married William F. Schmidt on May 31, 1939 in Jamestown. They made their home and raised their family on the farm south of Crystal Springs for 37 years. Bill passed away March 31, 1978. Anita remained on the farm until January 2016 when entering Ave Maria Village.
Anita cherished farm life and all that came with it; working in the fields during thrashing and haying, milking cows, raising chickens, selling the cream and eggs and tending a large garden. She loved cooking and baking. Having her family around the kitchen table for meals or just mid-morning or afternoon coffee gave her great joy. You always knew she’d have something delicious ready to serve! She cradled many, many of her grandbabies, great-grandbabies and great great-grandbabies in her loving arms. Her eyes sparkled when she would see “the little ones”. She played a very important part in all their lives.
Anita was a member of the English Lutheran Church in Medina, ND and a lifetime member of the Altar Guild.
Anita is survived by her seven children: Arlyn (Sourey) Schmidt, Medina, Eileen “Toots” Hocking, Fargo, Ivan (Mary) Schmidt, Medina, Billie (Marlys) Schmidt, Boise, ID, Debbie (Ken) Moser, Detroit Lakes, MN, Jeanne (Darrell) Rosemore, Jamestown, and Sherry (Ron) Krenz, Woodworth, ND; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; sister, Inez Job, Jamestown; and dear friends Julie Opp and Barb Moser. Her tender love will sustain us all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Carol Thornton; son-in-law, Dick Hocking; grandson-in-law, Kendall Hofmann; sisters, Luella Rieley and Marie Bohn; and brothers: Elmer, Irwin, Carl, Loyd, and Lester.
In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to English Lutheran Church, Medina, ND or Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND. Anita’s family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff at Ave Maria Village for the care given our mother.
