FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A prosecutor says a 23-year-old man won’t be charged in a fatal shooting in Casselton. Cass County State’s Attorney Birch Burdick says the man who was arrested in Friday’s shooting felt threatened by the other man and was acting in self-defense. Cass County sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting Friday about 9:30 p.m. in Casselton. Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner says the 23-year-old man was in fear of his life when 50-year-old Duane Turchin got out of his car, argued with the man and choked him. The younger man then shot Turchin. He called 911 and placed his gun in a safe. KVRR-TV reports the two men knew each and lived only a few houses away from each other.

FARGO (KFGO) – The name of a man shot and killed Friday night in Casselton has been released. He was 50-year-old Duane Turchin of Casselton.

In jail and facing a murder charge is 23-year-old William Dittmer, Jr.(Pictured), also of Casselton. Turchin suffered a gunshot wound to the chest at a mobile home on 3rd Ave. N. Turchin and Dittmer know one another.

The state’s attorneys office is reviewing the case.

CASSELTON, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a homicide in Casselton, about 30 miles west of Fargo. William S. Dittmer Jr., of Casselton, is charged with felony murder for the death of a 50-year-old man, also from Casselton. Dittmer is jailed in Fargo. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at about 9:35 p.m. Friday. The victim was found to have a gunshot wound to the upper body. He died at an area hospital. Authorities have not released further details or the name of the victim.
