Fargo Mayor Mahoney Statement, Sat. Night Violence
I am extremely disappointed that a peaceful protest has turned into a violent confrontation in the heart of our metro. The true Fargo was on display this morning when our community’s leaders and police officers, led by Fargo Police Department Chief Dave Todd, engaged in constructive conversations with protestors. I believe tonight’s actions are the result of outside influencers who are not reflective of our people. Working with our local and state resources, we will restore order to our community to keep our people and businesses safe. We are all Fargo Strong – we are all one community now more than ever.”
Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney has announced a 10 p.m. curfew for the downtown Fargo area.
In a statement the city says to not return to the area until the curfew has been cleared.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — What started out as a peaceful march through Fargo to protest the death of George Floyd turned ugly when protesters damaged buildings and vehicles in the city’s downtown after a two-hour showdown with police. The violence followed a day of speeches honoring Floyd and a march with hundreds of people who started at downtown park However, another group of more intense demonstrators gathered on a downtown street about 6 p.m., at which time the Fargo Police Department tweeted: “Protesters are not peaceful now.” Police unleashed several canisters of tear gas shortly after 8 p.m., which led several protesters to began throwing rocks at officers. Others began smashing windows at the Hodo, a popular boutique hotel and bar, damaging vehicles and moving dumpsters into roadways.
FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) –Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney has declared a state of emergenty in Fargo to help protect the safety of residents, personnel, infrastructure and property in light of the escalating situation in Downtown Fargo.
The city of Fargo posted to their Facebook page saying protesters are attacking Fargo Police Officers and private properties. Fires have also been set in the middle of streets.
You are asked to stay away from downtown Fargo until further notice.
(8:19 p.m. Sat 5-30-2020) – Protestors are throwing rocks at officers and pushing and tipping over garbage dumpsters to the middle of the roadway, according to Fargo Police.

(Original) —-Fargo police say an individual has been injured in downtown Fargo after peaceful protests have turned violent.
In a tweet posted at 7:37 p.m., police said they were extracting the individual from the northside of Fort Noks Bar of Gold.
According to police, the person needs medical attention and is not being under arrest or detained.
