Fargo  (June 1, 2020 ND AAA) — The average price for a gallon of regular gas in North Dakota increased 19 cents during the month of May but remains at a level last seen 17 years ago.

North Dakota motorists paid an average of $1.72 a gallon during May, the lowest average for the month since 2003. That year motorists filled up for an average of $1.54, according to AAA. Today’s statewide average of $1.83 is also the lowest for the first day of June since 2003, when it was $1.55.

Travel and fuel demand has slowly started to increase as pandemic lockdowns are lifted. Last week saw a 7-percent week-over-week increase in demand; however, demand is still down nearly 25 percent compared to last year, according to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest reports.
