Robert F. Serba – Tuesday June 9, 2020

Robert Serba, 86, Jamestown, ND died on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Ave Maria Village Nursing Home, Jamestown, ND.

Robert Frank Serba was born May 13, 1934 at Jamestown, ND the son of Anthony and Sarah (Warburton) Serba. He attended school in Jamestown and later at Pingree, graduating from Pingree High School in 1953. He moved with his family to a farm on the Pipestem River between Pingree and Buchanan, ND in 1943 where he was raised.

Bob was a member of the North Dakota National Guard from 1953 until 1955 where he graduated from the Cooks and Bakers School at Fort Lee, VA. He entered the United States Air Force in 1956 and served until 1960. He married Linde J. Mutter at Kirkland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 28, 1958. After his discharge they returned to Jamestown where he worked as an insurance salesman and as a clerk for Montgomery Wards Co. of Jamestown. He began working at the North Dakota State Hospital in 1963 as a Chief Cook. He later worked as a Vocational Evaluator, Graphic Arts Aid and an Activity Therapist besides continuing with his college education in the evenings. Bob received the Governor’s Award in 1998 for Excellence in Public Service. He retired from the N.D.S.H. in 2003 after 40 years of service.

Bob was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, ND, Jamestown Arts Association and the Jamestown College Theatre Program.

Bob is survived by one daughter, Jayne A. Serba, San Francisco, CA; one son, Stephen A. Serba; two granddaughters, Ramona Lea Serba, Rebecca Lynn Serba, both of Allentown, PA; two Goddaughters, Callie Lee Olson and Claycee Kae Olson, both of Jamestown, ND and longtime family friend, Lesha Olson, Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his wife Linde, parents and sisters Linda and Julia.

A shared Memorial service for both Robert and Linde will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 8, 2020 at United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, ND. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to United Presbyterian Youth Group or the Jamestown Arts Center Youth Program.
