On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Jay Nitschke said, the shelter has eight cats and 10 dogs available for adoption.

She said “Batman,” a year and a half old Sheppard cross underwent successful surgery on his injured leg earlier this month.  He’s recovering at the shelter, and he’s had interest in prospective adoptions.

Jay said remodeling of the dog kennels is continuing, adding that additional volunteers are needed, along with donations of supplies, dog and cat food and toys, along with cleaning supplies.

She reminded that proceeds from donations of aluminum cans to Gerdau Ameristeel can also support the shelter, by indicating that when dropping off the cans.

Also when purchasing items from Amazon.com just indicate a portion of the purchase price be donated to the James River Humane Society in Jamestown.

Jay reminds pet owner to keep them safe in the hot summer weather, including walking them in early morning, or later in the evening to protect the animal’s paws from being burned on hot pavement.   If leashed outdoors make sure it is in a shady area with plenty of water available.
